CakeInspiration Review- Pineapple Tarts Delivered To Your Doorstep!
Are you excited to usher in the Year of the Pig? Well, we definitely are especially with the many Chinese New Year Buffet Catering menus and goodies we have and will be receiving from our caterers these few weeks!
We were really thrilled to receive 5 sample packs of pineapple tarts from CakeInspiration as we knew there will be an interesting mix of traditional and refreshing flavours from them this year!

The 5 flavours that we received were:
- Earl Grey Pineapple Tarts
- Ondeh Ondeh Tarts
- Assam Pineapple Tarts
- Matcha Pineapple Tarts
- Original Pineapple Tarts
Let's get into our review of these tarts!
Earl Grey Pineapple Tarts

The Earl Grey Pineapple Tarts was one of our favourites! Real Earl Grey tea leaves were used in the pastry and you could spot specks of Earl Grey in there! The result? An absolutely aromatic and light sweet treat to have. I personally thought that CakeInspiration did a rather good job with the pastry as the pastry was crumbly, a tad melt-in-the-mouth texture yet not too dry. The pineapple paste used wasn't too sweet as well, and had a natural slight sourness you get from pineapples. Yum!
Assam Pineapple Tarts

This was my first time hearing about Assam Pineapple Tarts so I was a little excited yet apprehensive to try. Assam (or Tamarind) is widely used in Asian cuisine and known for its sweetness yet tart taste. To be very honest, I was a little underwhelmed when I tried these Assam Pineapple Tarts as I thought I would be having a "full-blown" Assam party in my mouth but nope, nothing of that sort. Perhaps CakeInspiration was concerned that the masses might not be able to accept the strong Assam flavour so the flavour was really toned down in these tarts. However, with that said, I was still able to taste a hint of Assam at the end, which leaned towards the sour side with just a tinge of bitter undertone which you can find in Assam/Tamarind.
Ondeh Ondeh Tarts (Gula Melaka)

I'm a big fan of Gula Melaka-anything as I love the rich, caramelized and slightly smokey taste of the Gula Melaka. Imagine my excitement when I found these Ondeh Ondeh Tarts sitting in front of me, waiting to be savoured and reviewed! Instead of pineapple paste, desiccated coconut was used as fillings for these tarts. The desiccated coconut fillings were slow-cooked with Gula Melaka till they have fully absorbed all those caramelized goodness and then wrapped with pandan-infused pastry dough. I couldn't be more satisfied with these little mini balls of happiness! They were so yummy! They really tasted like Ondeh Ondeh, except they're in mini tarts form. However, I really don't recommend you overindulging on this one as eating too many at a go can be quite surfeiting (and also put a strain on your waistline!).
Matcha Pineapple Tarts

Matcha fans, you'll be pleased to know that CakeInspiration has one for you guys this year! In these Matcha Pineapple Tarts are pineapple paste balls wrapped with a layer of red bean paste followed by Matcha flavoured pastry! I thought this was a rather lovely combination as the Matcha flavour really complimented the red bean-pineapple paste filling. However, a Matcha fan in our team felt that the Matcha flavour for these tarts could have been stronger to enhance the overall taste of these tarts.
Pineapple Tarts

While the "daring and bold" flavours are interesting to have, I feel that no Chinese New Year festivities is complete without the good o' traditional original Pineapple Tarts. These tarts needs no further introduction and are usually a staple in most houses during the Chinese New Year. The pastry was crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth yet not too dry. I felt that CakeInspiration has done a great job managing the sugar contents of these tarts as they did not feel too sweet or sickening after having a few pieces. But with that said, do watch yourselves when having these as they can be pretty addictive especially being bite-sized. You'll be surprised how many of these you can have in one seating. :P
As a whole, we really enjoyed the tarts put together by CakeInspiration this year and the favourites of the team would be the Earl Grey Pineapple Tarts and Ondeh Ondeh Tarts!
