Om Nom Taste of Thai Review- Authentic Thai Food Bentos That Are Tasty & Value-for-Money
It’s been our greatest pleasure to receive 4 deluxe bento sets from Om Nom Taste of Thai for sampling! Om Nom Taste of Thai serves authentic Thai cuisine that is simple yet complex and robust in flavour. The eatery’s chef has over 20 years of experience that can single-handedly cook up a storm of “Siamese Delights” that is freshly prepared in authentically spiced with traditional aromatic Thai flavours.
They have recently revamped their bento series to include more offerings for its customers. In addition, they are having a promotion for their bento sets which discounts up to 40% of its usual price!
The bentos that we were privileged to try include:
1. Deluxe Delight Set ($15.80 per Set)
Includes:
Basil Chicken
Garlic Fish Fillet
Prawn Cake
Mix Vegetables with Oyster Sauce
Rice
The bento had a generous portion of Basil Chicken bits which gave off the stir-fried fragrance of aromatic basil leaves, chillies and garlic. It was served alongside the Mix Vegetables with Oyster Sauce to neutralise the spices since the greens were rather crisp and sweet due to its freshness. The Prawn Cake was our favourite dish - there was prawn meat in every bite and the texture was moist and consistent. The Garlic Fish Fillet was yet another tasty dish that was bursting with garlic flavours; It was not too overwhelming though, as we could still taste the natural sweetness from the dory fillet underneath the batter. However, one suggestion that we have is for the fish fillet to be slightly crispier, which would add an extra crunch to the dish.

2. Deluxe Seafood Set ($17.80 per Set)
Includes:
Green Curry Prawns
Mango Salad
Mix Vegetables with Oyster Sauce
Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet
Rice
The Green Curry had a thick milky consistency and was a combination of sour, sweet, salt and a slight heat. There was just the right amount of coconut milk, enough to sweeten the curry but not overpower it. The level of spiciness was rather mild and it has a sweet aftertaste to it. We felt that it could be improved with more spices to heighten the curry’s aromatic flavours and depth.
The prawns soaked up the essence of the green curry, making it very flavourful. In addition, the caterer was very thoughtful to have the prawns partially de-shelled to maintain its freshness as well as for our convenience, a plus point for paying attention to the minute needs of its customers! However, we felt that the prawn lacked the crunchiness that we believe would have perfected the dish should it have been otherwise.
Rating: 3/5
3. Deluxe Beef Set ($17.80 per Set)
Includes:
Basil Sliced Beef
Mango Salad
Prawn Cake
Broccoli with Garlic
Rice
The Basil Sliced Beef was definitely one of the most well-received dishes among our team! The beef was well-marinated and each mouthful was juicy as it soaked up the goodness from the gravy. However, some of the beef slices were slightly tough and could be better if the slices were more tender. Nevertheless, it was still a sensational creation that stole the hearts of our team members!
While it was meant to be an appetiser, the Mango salad was a perfect way to cleanse the palate after the meal due to the fresh shredded sour mango. Super refreshing! However, it would have been a plus point if the salad was tossed with a salad dressing, to ease the dryness of the dish. Lastly, the broccoli was crunchy to taste with aromatic chopped garlic to enhance its flavour.

4. Premium Thai Seafood Set ($24.80 per Set)
Includes:
Curry Crayfish
Prawns Cake
Mango Salad Fish Fillet
Baby Kai Lan with Salted Fish
Rice
This premium bento set was one of the most value for money bento, considering that the main dish is crayfish. This bento set was a top pick for our colleagues and it was devoured in no time!
A generous portion of crayfish was buried under a thick layer of scrambled egg and topped with curry gravy and spices. The crayfish meat could be easily peeled out of the shell with minimal effort. The meat was sweet, succulent and did not have a fishy smell. It was our first time having crayfish with curry sauce, and we got to admit that this combination is certainly divine! Kudos to Om Nom Taste of Thai for the innovative creation, we loved it! This, together with the Kai Lan complemented the rice perfectly. The Mango Salad Fish Fillet, however, was slightly on the dry side and would have been better if it was topped with sauce. Else, this dish is also close to perfection in our opinion, definitely a must-try if you are a seafood lover!
