Food that warms the heart, with a sense of nostalgia, the Raya Sayang Mini Buffet Menu by On & On Diners does make me feel that life’s giving me a chance of going back in time to savour my favourite and best dishes of my childhood days! This week, we’re here to bring you back in time to relive the local kampung days because well, I’m sure everyone’s feeling nostalgic these days!
Tom Yum Goong
Light and slightly creamy, the Tum Yum Goong is a medley of seafood Tom Yum that consists of various seafood ingredients like prawns and mussels, and perfect for people who love both creamy and non-milky Tom Yum as I’d imagine you would be able to get the best of both worlds! For a soup dish to be fully packed with ingredients, the Tom Yum is definitely more than enough for a pax of 15!

Nasi Goreng Hijau
The Nasi Goreng Hijau, is probably one of the most delicious local fried rice I’ve ever tasted. The ‘wok’ taste was present, and I’m not sure how On & On Diners does it, but even after hours of photoshoot the rice was still so fragrant and flavourful, which honestly came as a surprise to me! It’s not unique, but it definitely tastes extraordinary!

Wok Fried Seafood Mee Goreng
The Mee Goreng, let me just say, it was extremely delicious! Don’t belittle this ordinary-looking Mee Goreng, because once it’s in your mouth, trust me, you’d be begging for more. The texture of the noodles was well-cooked, and the amount of spices was perfect to perk your tastes buds!

French Bean Kacang Buncis
Simple, but a dish cooked with so much effort, you’d feel that it’s a home-made dish. The simple French Bean Kacang Bucis flavour, it was a great pair to the Nasi Goreng Hijau. Eat them together and you’ll definitely know what I mean, a dish that warms the heart.

Original Lamb Rendang
The Lamb Redang may be an exquisite taste to some, but for those who love mutton, this might be your favourite dish from this menu. The meat was tender and was marinated nicely, that the flavour was infused with the meat!

Ayam Lemak Chili Padi
Making its way to the top of my list in this menu, the Ayam Lemak Chili Padi is an assemblage of spices and various tastes. With its great amount of ingredients, the creamy and spicy dish is perfect if you’re looking for something to drizzle onto your rice or noodles – because it really can go both ways! The coconut milk in the dish is so fragrant that you’ll keep sipping the curry, because it seemed so good because that’s what I did!

Ikan Cecaru Sembat
I’m sure by now you would’ve known that I’m not a fan of the smell of fish, but this Ikan Cecaru Sembat was definitely the cream of the crop! It was not only fresh, but the chili gravy that was paired with it had the right amount of spice that will perk your tastes buds. However, the fish and chili gravy personally felt separate to me, and it could be because the fish wasn’t as flavourful as I thought it would be, but when eaten with a great amount of chili it still tastes good!

Sambal Petai Prawns
If you’re a fan of petai, you’ll surely enjoy this. The sambal was sweet, spicy with a tinge of saltiness which I felt was a good pair to the prawns and when topped with petai, the flavour was elevated and became even more delicious with a mixed taste of sweet, spicy, salty and a lot of flavour!

Sambal Lobster Ball
Seeing the Sambal Lobster Ball brought me back to my childhood days, where I’d buy them for a snack during recess, so having them with the rest of the dishes really gave me a sense of nostalgia and yearning for the good old days. In addition, these Sambal Lobster Balls were amazing too! With the right amount of sambal, it’s definitely enjoyable for me.

BBQ Gong Gong
(served w Sambal Kicap)
It’s not every day you get to have gong gong in a mini buffet, so I definitely had to grab this chance! The gong gong was yummy, which proved to be fresh, and for extra depth and flavour, dip it with the accompanying sauce, you will not regret it.

Tauhu Sumbat
Stuffed with only cucumber and carrot, the Tauhu Sumbat had little ingredients but strangely was flavourful, and was the perfect pair, especially when dipped with the sweet and spicy sauce! The sauce was extremely enjoyable when paired with the soft and light tauhu.

Chilled Almond Jelly with Longan
A refreshing and rejuvenating end to the end of a hearty meal, the dessert was milk and sweet, which I thought was a great ending to a sinful (but so delicious) meal. The best part? There was plenty of almond jelly and longan for everyone too!
