ACV is made from fermented apples and water. Similar to other vinegars, it has 5% acidity in it. ACV has an indefinite shelf life, which means that it will still be safe to drink even if it is left there for a few years. Aside from having a long shelf life, ACV has zero calories per tablespoon, and is a great way to add flavours to your meals without the need to worry about additional weight gains.

Weight Loss

There is a misconception about ACV as some people believe that by taking a shot or tablespoon of ACV, it would help to stimulate fat burning. However, a registered dietitian, Katherine Zeratsky has mentioned that there isn't any scientific reason to support that theory. Even though ACV doesn't stimulate fat burning, it does help you to lose some calories if you incorporate them into your meals! By replacing the seasoning and dressing you use for your meals with ACV, you'll significantly cut down the number of calories in your meals as ACV has very few calories.
High Cholesterol
According to a study done on obese rats, ACV has seen to be effective in lowering total cholesterol levels if consumed daily. The antioxidants in the ACV reduced the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglyceride levels in the obese rats. It's important to note that this study was done on rats and it is unsure that if it has the same effect on the human body.
Type 2 Diabetes
One of the studies done by Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism has revealed that you can reduce postprandial glycemia (a spike in sugar level after your meal) by 20% by taking two tablespoons of vinegar when consuming a meal with complex carbohydrates. Another study was done by European Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found out that consuming vinegar before a meal, can help to improve your insulin response.
In conclusion, although ACV isn't the miracle weight loss drink that we thought it would be, it can still help you to lose some weight! Why not try incorporating ACV in your meals in the future and see if your body has benefited from it!
