4 Ways to Manage your mental health during Covid-19
This period might be stressful for many of us, especially now that Singapore is in the circuit breaker mode. Working from home not as productive as when you are in office? Can’t get your minds off your kids’ home-based learning?
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and worried and as crucial as it is to help the country flatten the curve, your mental health should be taken care of as well. The feelings of anxiety, powerless, impatience and frustration may be expected and normal during these trying times, try these tips to keep your mind away from the negativities out there.

#1 Limit your exposure to news media
This not only includes those random unidentified news that your family chats have been sharing but also news from proper identified sources about the current situation. It may be sometimes proved to be more upsetting than informational. And if you do read, please read from identified sources! Otherwise, carry on your life as per normal. To be honest, I have read more news during these few months than I have had in the past few years!

#2 Stay Busy
Distract yourself. Distraction can break your cycle of negative thoughts that might lead to anxiety and depression. Start a new project that you have always wanted to, like revamping your bedroom. Even better, ask you parents to join you in your activities! Perhaps baking a cake or learning a new dance! I made “bubbles” from the bubble tea with my dad recently!

#3 Take Care or your body
Take deep breaths once every while. Meditate and clear your mind. Stretch and relax your muscles. Don’t forget to eat regular meals, drink plenty of water and have sufficient sleep! There are lots of workout videos online for you to follow if you feel your muscles have stiffened up after a whole day of being a couch potato!

#4 Connect with others
Having to stay home doesn’t mean that you can’t keep in contact with your friends and family! Maybe download the same mobile game that supports multiple players and play together! Video call your aunt or cousin to talk and gossip like you normally would when you meet up every week. I am playing online mahjong with my cousin and aunt just as I’m writing this!
I am as upset as you are about the whole situation, but like what PM Lee has said, this short-term pain will help stamp out the virus! Hence, let’s all work together and stamp out this stubborn virus! “Hey, virus we are capable of being stubborn too!”
Stay Home, Stay Safe, Stay Sane!
