5 Ways to Cook Eggs!

I don’t know about you, but I love eggs. And to be very honest, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t! People often forget how important eggs are in our lives and how much joy they bring us. Think about it, aren’t you 10 times happier after you see the perfect yolk sitting on the whites, when you’re taking a boomerang for the gram and the yolk flows like lava just at the right moment?! See what I’m getting at?
Eggs are humble. Probably even more than you and me. Eggs are a source of quality nutrients and are inexpensive, but you don’t ever see them bragging, do you? They contain proteins, vitamins and minerals, and they are just absolutely delicious! So, I’m curious, how do you like your eggs? If you are getting bored, here are 5 ways to cook eggs! Unless you rather have them raw of course…
1. Boiled Eggs

There are 2 main types of boiled eggs: Hard boiled and Soft boiled. For hard boiled eggs, the eggs are cooked through, including the yolk.
To cook hard boiled eggs, make sure you have enough water in your pot to cover the eggs by at least 2 inches (5cm). Go ahead, take a ruler if you must. Bring the water to a boil and drop the eggs gently, and leave them for 10 minutes. Tip: Prepare an ice bath for your cooked eggs so that you can peel the shell off easily.
For soft boiled eggs, cut the cooking time into half, leave the eggs in for 5 minutes. After that, you can escort the soft boiled eggs to their ice bath as well. If you want to be fancy, put them into little egg cups and eat it with a spoon!
2. Scrambled Eggs

Scrambled eggs are one of my favourite ways to have my eggs. Its creamy, soft, and just amazing. Here are the ingredients you need to make the perfect scrambled eggs:
2 Eggs, Butter, Salt and Pepper, Milk, Chives (optional)
The golden rule for making scrambled eggs: NEVER beat your eggs.
Take a cold pot, and crack 2 eggs into the pot and add a generous knob of butter. Turn on the stove, and start stirring. When the eggs at the bottom of the pot begin to cook, take it off the heat and continue stirring, scraping the cooked eggs off the bottom. Then put it back onto the heat and keep on doing this at about 10 second intervals. I like to add a splash of milk at the end to give it a creamier texture and taste. Add salt and pepper to taste, and if you wish to take it up a notch, chop some fresh chives!
3. Omelet

An omelet is where you can have some fun with the process and experiment to find out what ingredients work best for you! But here’s my favourite concoction: Bacon/Ham, shredded cheese, onions/spring onions.
Beat 2 eggs, and mix them up with the ingredients nicely chopped. Heat a pan and melt the butter. Pour the omelet mixture in and wait for the edges to turn brown. Fold the omelet into half with your spatula and cook it on each side for about 30 seconds.
4. Poached

This must be one of the more “fancy” ways to have your eggs. And maybe the most challenging too.
Heat the water and turn the gas off just before it boils. Swirl your water in the pot and carefully drop the egg into the center of the steaming whirlpool. Leave it in the water for about 5 minutes then lift it up gently. Voila! It’s ready to be served however you may like it.
5. Sunny Side Up

Sunny side up, it is what it is, the yolk is as bright as the sun!
Take a pan and melt some butter. Crack your egg and careful not to break the yolk! Fry until the edges turn brown. If you want the yolk to be more cooked and less runny, then leave it in for about 1.5 minutes more.
BONUS! Many people have the misconception that a sunny side up and an overeasy egg to be the same thing, but nope! To have an overeasy egg, you simply flip the sunny side up and cook it on the other side, so that the yolk is slightly cooked.
So, there you have it! These are just 5 of many other ways to cook eggs. And best of all, eggs go with almost anything and everything, so order some food to go with your eggs now at: www.foodline.sg!
