Many manufacturers who produce soda often claim that diet soda is a good option for people who are on diet. As a result, many people tend to have the perception that diet coke is a healthier choice. However, there are artificial sweeteners in diet soda which will trick your body to think that you are consuming real food. This causes a sudden increase in insulin which can turn into stored fat. Therefore, diet soda is not so âdietâ at all.
- Granola

Granola is both a breakfast food and snack food consisting of rolled oats, nuts, honey or other sweeteners which are rich in fibre, protein, and micronutrients. However, do you know that most of the granola out there are high in calories and packed with added fats and sugars? Overeating of granola may lead to unwanted weight gain, increasing your risk of obesity and metabolic disease which is not very healthy as what we had thought.
- Dried Fruit

Most people feel that dried fruits are healthy snacks to have as they are packed with a lot of nutrients. However, this is not true. Since they are dried, they often lack water-soluble nutrients and are calorie-dense. The common dried fruits we see are small and compact which could also lead to overeating, as a result, the intake of sugar, calories and carbohydrates increase tremendously. So, to continue to eat dried fruits, it is probably better to keep track of the amount of sugar and calories being consumed.
- Sport drink

Sports drinks contain carbohydrates, which is a quick source of energy when your body is depleted of energy. However, most of them are also full of sugar. Some of the more popular brands have as much as eight teaspoons of sugar per every eight ounces of fluid which is almost as much sugar as what many soda drinks contain.
- Fruit Juice

Many people are choosing fruit juice as a healthier alternative to soft drinks. However, many types of research have proven that fruit juice (whether it is freshly made or cold-pressed) contains as much if not more amount of sugar compared to soft drinks. Isnât it shocking!!!

You might be wondering why yoghurt is also part of unhealthy food. Studies have proven that plain or Greek yoghurt can help with weight loss and also many other benefits. However, Greek yoghurt does not taste good. Therefore, many people will opt for fruit flavoured yoghurt which may also be seen as a healthier option. But do you know, a fruit flavoured yoghurt contains as much sugar as some of the desserts we consume outside? A serving of 240 grams of fruit-flavoured, non-fat yoghurt contains an estimated 40 grams of sugar, which is nearly 10 teaspoons of sugar. Doesnât that sound terrifying!!!
In a nutshell, we often judge the nutritious value of the food based on its appearance. However, how often do we really analyse the food that is going into our stomach? A good way to know our food better is to look at the nutrition information (commonly found on its package) before eating and choose wisely.
