Chinese New Year is a time when families of all generations gather around the table to celebrate, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful meals together. Choosing the right catering menu is essential — it needs to be festive, comforting, and enjoyable for both the young and old. International Catering’s CNY Abundance Set A ($26.80/pax) delivers just that, with a well-balanced spread of classic Chinese New Year dishes that feel both celebratory and family-friendly.

Braised Ee-Fu Noodle (干烧伊面)

This was hands down my favourite dish of the set. Ee-fu noodles are a must-have during Chinese New Year as they symbolise longevity, and International Catering did this exceptionally well. The noodles were flavourful yet not overly heavy, making them a perfect staple for all ages. It was so good that I even packed some home for dinner — a clear sign of a winning dish. Both adults and children will find this comforting and easy to enjoy.

Auspicious Roasted Chicken (吉祥烧鸡)

Roasted chicken is a Chinese New Year classic, symbolising prosperity and completeness. This version was well-roasted with tender meat, making it suitable for elderly family members while still satisfying for younger guests. It’s a familiar and reassuring dish that fits perfectly into any reunion meal.

Lychee Sweet & Sour Fillet (荔枝酸甜鱼片)

Sweet and sour dishes are always a crowd-pleaser, especially for kids. The addition of lychee gives this fish fillet a fruity sweetness that feels festive and refreshing. The flavours are well-balanced — not too tangy — making it approachable for all ages while still adding variety to the table.

Har Lok Prawn (干煎虾碌)

This dish was another standout. The prawns were surprisingly large, fat, and juicy — possibly tiger prawns — and cooked to retain their natural sweetness. Prawns symbolise laughter and happiness during Chinese New Year, and this dish definitely brought that celebratory feel to the spread.

Shrimp Prawn Roll (黄金虾枣)

Golden shrimp rolls are a festive favourite, representing wealth and good fortune. These were crispy on the outside and savoury inside, making them a popular finger food for both adults and children. They’re especially great for gatherings where guests enjoy a mix of textures and flavours.

Fortune Chicken Money Bag (招财鸡钱袋)

This dish fits the Chinese New Year theme perfectly, with “money bags” symbolising wealth and abundance. The chicken filling was flavourful without being overpowering, making it suitable for guests who prefer lighter-tasting dishes. It’s a thoughtful inclusion that adds both meaning and visual appeal to the meal.

Mango Pudding with Mixed Fruit Cocktail (杂果芒果布丁)

To round off the meal, the mango pudding was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet. Desserts during Chinese New Year should be easy to enjoy after a hearty feast, and this one does exactly that. It’s a safe and enjoyable choice for guests of all ages, from children to seniors.

Final Thoughts - 5/5 (A perfect feast for families)

International Catering’s CNY Abundance Set A is a well-rounded Chinese New Year menu that truly understands the essence of reunion dining. With comforting staples like Ee-fu noodles, festive highlights such as Har Lok prawns, and crowd-friendly flavours throughout, this set is ideal for family gatherings where multiple generations are sharing a meal. If you’re looking for a Chinese New Year catering option that feels festive, inclusive, and satisfying for all ages, this set is definitely worth considering. Order now here!
