Different Types Of Milk & Their Benefits!

Different Types Of Milk & Their Benefits!

When I was young, I was only exposed to drinking cow milk - the most common type of milk drank by many. However, as I became older, I learnt about the term ‘lactose intolerant’, which led me to discover that there are many different types of milk available! In this article, I’ve decided to share the different types of milk available as well as their benefits. Read on to find out more!

Cow Milk

Good old cow milk has a lot of nutritional value and is a good source of protein and calcium. It contains magnesium that can aid in bone development and muscle function, and whey and casein, which helps to lower blood pressure. It is also an ideal post workout recovery beverage. Tastewise, it is sweet, creamy and most people don’t have a problem drinking it.

Goat Milk

As compared to cow milk, it is similar but here are some differences. It is easier to digest goat milk as the fat particles in the milk are smaller. It is also richer in calcium. However, depending on the goat breed and processing, there is a possibility that the goat milk might taste sweet and mild or pungent and strong.

Almond Milk

Almond milk is suitable for people who are lactose intolerant. It also has very fewer calories and is apparently very helpful for weight loss. People who are allergic to almonds or nuts should definitely avoid almond milk. For the taste, it is nuttier rather than sweet. It is also very easy to make almond milk at home - soak almonds in water and run them through the food processor before straining.

Soy Milk

Soy milk is another alternative for lactose-intolerant people. As soy milk is made from plants, it is naturally free of cholesterol and low in saturated fats. If we were to compare it to cow milk, it is definitely healthier. Soy milk has a beany and mild taste.

Oat Milk

Oat milk is lactose-free, low in calories, fat, and sugar but high in protein and fiber. It somehow tastes like cow milk but has an oat-y aftertaste. It is also thicker and naturally sweeter, but light.

As much as milk has its health benefits, it is also important to eat a well-balanced meal. Head over to FoodLine.sg, a platform with a wide range of food selection to choose from!
