Healthy Eating and its Benefits

Healthy Eating and its Benefits

Many of us hear the term healthy diet and immediately picture a plate full of vegetables and fresh fruits. However, even with the understanding of how a healthy diet should look like, many of us do not practice it daily.
Why is it important to have a healthy diet?
Firstly, it strengthens your immune system. Many chronic diseases such as type-2 diabetes and heart disease are caused by poor nutrition and obesity. With 1 in 9 Singaporeans suffering from diabetes, the emphasis on good nutrition is higher than ever. Taking a preventive approach with a whole food-based nutrition plan also reduces the risk of developing other related diseases such as kidney failure.
Healthy eating also supports your mental well-being too! Eating the right foods can actually make you happier – nutrients such as iron and omega-3 fatty acids found in protein-rich food can boost your mood. This contributes to better overall mental well-being and protects you against mental health issues!
So, how does one build a sensible nutrition plan?

Healthy eating is all about eating balanced proportions of nutrient-rich foods from the various food groups, as well as adopting several healthy eating habits.
Firstly, we could choose whole foods instead of processed. Swap your frozen pizza and instant ramen with whole foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They are packed with essential nutrients like protein, fibre, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals as opposed to processed foods which contain empty calories. “Commit to adding veggies to your lunch and dinner and fruit to your snack,” suggests DiCarlo.
Secondly, keep healthy food readily available. When you get hungry, you’re more likely to eat the first thing you see on the counter or in the cupboard. Keep healthy food in easily accessible and visible places in your home and workplace. Put some fruits in a basket and place it on the kitchen counter, store healthy snacks at eye level in your pantry and stock up your fridge with small batches of cooked whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. At work, store quick bites like almonds, pistachios and dried berries in a jar and place it on your desk or in its top drawer.
Speaking of eating whole food and keeping healthy food readily available, it might sound like a hassle or something troublesome to do…But don’t worry as FoodLine has got you covered with our Tingkat services which can be catered to you or your family! With over 40 caterers and 259 Tingkat menus, the balanced meal is at your fingertips! https://www.foodline.sg/tingkat/
