New Fut Kai Vegetarian Deluxe Full Buffet Review
For over 10 years, New Fut Kai Vegetarian has been serving restaurant quality, vegetarian gourmet food to vegetarians and non-vegetarians customers in Singapore. This time, I’m going to be reviewing their Deluxe Buffet Menu. In this menu, you can choose 7 food items and 1 drink. For folks who love and regularly eat vegetarian food, you can expect dishes that are not commonly found.
1. Nonya Curry Fish

.
This hits the spot! I’m quite impressed with this Nonya Curry Fish as the taste resembles the normal curry that non-vegetarians eat. It consists of vegetables like ladyfingers and eggplants, in addition to the juicy taupok pieces and sour pineapples cooked in strongly flavoured curry sauce. If you cannot take spice, this is definitely more than suitable for you.

2. Yangzhou Fried Rice

.
To be honest, I am not a fan of this Yangzhou Fried Rice as the rice is a tad bit hard. The saving grace was the interesting textures (chewy and crunchy) thanks to the mushrooms, mock char siew pieces, black fungus and bean sprouts in this dish. It is topped with mock chicken floss which adds a slightly sweet taste to the fried rice. For rice or noodles, I recommend getting other staples instead. There’s Fried Hong Kong Noodles, Olive Fried Rice and more!

3. Hong Shao Toufu

.
What I liked about this Hong Shao Toufu was how soft the tofu was, thus it gave me the impression that the tofu used was quite fresh. This is a dish full of vegetables like tomatoes, snap peas, eggplants, button mushrooms , chinese mushrooms and carrots braised in a brown sauce mixture.

4. Braised Bailing Mushroom and Xiao Bai Chye with Wolfberries

.
As someone who loves any type of mushroom, it was a pleasant sight to see the generous amount of bailing mushrooms they’ve given. The bailing mushrooms had a nice biting texture to it, along with the crunchy Xiao Bai Chye that was cooked just right, neither undercooked nor overcooked.

5. Sweet Sour Longan Pork

.
This got to be one of my favourites in this menu. It was such a refreshing dish because of the longan. This Sweet Sour Longan Pork consists of tomatoes, sweet pineapples, cucumber, longan, coated in a slightly tangy and sweet sauce . The juices from the vegetables neutralises the sweetness of the sauce. The mock pork was easy to chew and it goes well with the sweet sauce.

6. Cereal Eggplant

.
I had high expectations for this dish. Unfortunately, I will have to give this the lowest rating. This mock eggplant was simply starchy flour, very soft with no texture. However, the cereal bits were sweet and nice to munch on. I would suggest that you try other dishes instead, for instance Cereal Prawn, Mala Crispy Chicken or Thai Style Spring Roll for Course 6.

7. Dessert
I did not get to taste their dessert this time but you can choose Longan Sea Coconut (a popular dessert!), Lotus Seed Red Bean Paste or Fruit Cocktail with Peach Gum.
8. Orange Juice

.
The orange juice tasted sweet and had a bitter aftertaste. I loved this orange juice with pulp, as it tasted more like natural orange juices as compared to the normal artificial tasting ones.

Add On: Vegetarian Shark Fin Soup

.
One of the premium specials add-ons that you can get, this Vegetarian Shark Fin Soup is a warm and comforting dish that perfectly compliments the rest of the dishes. It is a lightly flavoured soup with ingredients such as enoki mushroom, vegetarian shark fin and mock meat that is shredded thinly. A must try!
Rating: 4.5/5
Overall, I would rate this menu a 4/5. As someone who prefers food that is strongly flavoured, the dishes tasted lighter on my palate than usual. But I honestly don’t mind this for a change. It tasted clean and healthy since it is not very salty. Though there are some hits and misses, on the whole, I think it is a pretty interesting and decent vegetarian buffet if you choose the right dishes! If you do order, please try the Nonya Curry Fish, Sweet Sour Longan Pork and especially the Vegetarian Shark Fin Soup.
