Are Potato Chips Really Unhealthy?
Iâm sure most of us are aware of the answer but is it though?
How can such a delicious snack be unhealthy yet been on the shelves for dozens of years right?
Well, as much as I love potato chips, the answer to the question is a definite yes. A Boston-based Nutritionist said that most chips offer little to no nutritional value and are just fried carbs full of fat and salt.
Now, other than crispy, crunchy, salty, and delicious, potato chips have no other good quality. But why do we always devour the whole packet of chips every time we pick one up?
Scientists have a term for this; it is called âHedonic Hyperphagiaâ, basically describe eating for pleasure and not for hunger. And this pretty much sums up the whole chip eating experience for most of us.

Do you know?
Have you ever come across bags of chips that claim, âlower in sodiumâ, âbakedâ, âtrans-fat freeâ? These are only a few, but the truth is, these chips are not any healthier than the normal ones. Remember this when you reach out to grab that supposedly âhealthierâ chips, if they remove or cut down one ingredient or process into making the chips, they will have to compensate with another to make it taste equally good.
What should you do when you crave for chips?
Hereâs a tip, when you do crave for chips, you are likely over one or two things: salt and the crunch. You can still get both by choosing wisely. Perhaps substitute the cravings with baked veggie chips or wholegrain crackers!
Bottom line is donât let these addictive, tempting, crunchy and salty chips take over your diet. Practice control and caution when it comes to potato chips. Have a healthier and balanced diet throughout the day and a tiny little bit of chips once in a blue moon is still manageable!
