Babalicious Peranakan Bento Boxes

The Peranakan Bento Boxes were my favourite series amongst the Bento sets I’ve tasted! As someone who simply adores Peranakan food and strong-flavoured dishes, I especially enjoyed the Beef Rendang set. In case you have never heard nor tasted this dish before, Beef Rendang is a marinated beef stewed in a flavourful, rich gravy. This gravy contains coconut milk spiced with chilli paste, ginger, lemon leaves and a little bit of curry powder! It is so luscious and savoury, tying the dish together.
With sides such as crunchy Chap Chye and crispy Ngoh Hiang, you and your guests won’t be disappointed with these Bento sets!

Perfect if you’ve Peranakan guests, the other sets such as the Ayam Pongteh and Itek Sio (Braised Duck) sets are delicious as well – especially served with steaming hot, white rice. The meats were also cooked till tender, so you needn’t worry about tough or undercooked meat when it reaches you.
The medley of savoury flavours was enough to bring me back down memory lane and reminisce of times when my mother will cook these familiar dishes for the family – definitely worth the try!

Babalicious Bento Boxes From The Wok (Noodle)

As the name suggests, these Bento Boxes are cooked straight from the wok, giving the food a nice ‘wok hei’ aroma when you take off the lid. We enjoyed the Hor Fun with Beef tremendously, with each Hor Fun piece tastefully charred from being tossed in the wok. Not only was the ‘wok hei’ taste prominent, the Hor Fun itself was bursting with that familiar, savoury flavour that many of us love. Moreover, the smokiness of the Hor Fun paired with the tender beef slices was a match made in heaven – they taste mouth-watering good together!

Special mention to the Black Pepper Udon with Seafood as well, with soft and chewy Udon noodles and fresh seafood to accompany – a delightful reminiscence of Japanese dishes. These Bento sets are topped off with sides such as a Fried Egg and Ngoh Hiang, making sure you taste the full ‘wok hei’ package! 😊

Babalicious Bento Boxes From The Wok (Rice)

Similar to the previous, these Bento sets are mainly rice dishes. Anyone who knows me will know that I love my rice, so I was pumped to try out these Bento sets! After trying out the 5 rice sets, I finally picked a winner – the Nyonya Fried Rice. Don’t get me wrong, all 5 of these Bento sets were delicious and so tantalizing to dig into! The Nyonya Fried Rice was sautéed with sambal chilli and fresh shrimp, coating the fluffy rice in its mildly spicy goodness – a simple yet scrumptious meal!

Besides the fried rice, there was also Sweet & Sour Chicken/Fish with steamed white rice, which held just the right amount of tangy sauce. I loved how you could taste the evident ‘wok hei’ in these Bento sets, just like the previous Hor Fun dishes. Also accompanied by Fried Egg and Ngoh Hiang, the different tastes and textures come together harmoniously, and we thoroughly enjoyed these.
