There were 4 types of rice dishes to choose from and we picked the Kampong Fried Rice! This is a modified version, with the water convolvulus (kangkong) and long beans replaced with crab stick, assorted peas, carrots and corn. That did not really compromise the taste of the dish whatsoever, and the other mains made up for the change in ingredients! A simple yet luxurious homestyle wok-fried rice that is fragrant and flavourful, tasty even on its own!
Noodles - Kecap Manis Maggie Goreng


Made using good old Maggi instant noodles, this dish is tossed with cabbage, bean sprouts, and most importantly kecap manis! Kecap manis is a thick, syrupy, soy sauce with an addictive salty-sweet taste and is fundamental to this dish. Kecap Manis Maggie Goreng - a sweet, salty and spicy combo that works so well!
Chicken - Satay Chicken Goreng


Satay Chicken Goreng is a dish where the chicken meat is fried without the skewers and grilling. Thick pieces of boneless chicken chunks are stewed till tender in an aromatic and spicy peanut sauce. This dish takes away the hassle of having to bite off the meat from the skewer, yet still as delicious and tantalising!
Mutton - Signature Mutton Rendang


Probably another easy favourite among those who had the dishes was Mutton Rendang. Numerous pieces of mutton meat are slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices until almost all the liquid is gone, allowing the meat to absorb the condiments and become tender. The luscious cocoa colored gravy is a mix of sweet and spicy coupled with the juicy, fork-tender meat, leaves one wanting seconds!
Fish - Assam Pedas Fish with Pineapples


Assam Pedas, which translates literally to "Sour Spicy", is a classic dish that I will always order whenever I visit the tze char stall. While the gravy is the perfect blend of spiciness, the tamarind juice lends its zesty fragrance, and the end result is an amazing broth that is absolutely delicious to taste.
Seafood - Garlic Black Bean Sauce Scallops


Scallops are one of the best ingredients from the sea. Their mild flavours make them versatile and palatable and especially so in this dish. Red and green bell peppers were also cooked together to give colour and vibrancy to the dish! The sweet scallops shine when paired with the garlic and black bean sauce, and the Garlic Black Bean Sauce Scallops taste great served over the noodles or rice.
Vegetables - Wok Fried Kailan with Minced Garlic


Wok Fried Kai Lan with Garlic is another popular Kai Lan recipe that is lightly seasoned and complements well with the other heavier mains mentioned earlier on. The veggies were bright and crunchy to taste as well.
Sides - Curry Samosa


The Curry Samosa was still crispy and slightly warm when we had them! These deep fried palm sized parcels were filled with a delicious curry infused potato filling and luckily, not too spicy, so even my colleague who isn't a big fan of spicy food could savour them!
Sides - Fish Finger with Mayo Dip


The perfect finger food - Fish Fingers! These marinated sticks are coated with breadcrumbs and deep fried to perfection...! They taste great alone and also with the mayonnaise sauce provided!
Dessert - Chilled Aloe Vera with Fruit Cocktail


For desserts, we ended up getting the Chilled Aloe Vera with Fruit Cocktail. It was a refreshing drink to fight the hot and humid weather outside. The container was packed generously full of cocktail and aloe vera cubes, and one could have multiple servings too! Although it was a tad too sweet for me, other colleagues commented that after the ice melted down, it is still very tasty and invigorating!
