Chef’s Catering Review – Chef’s Supreme Mini Buffet

In the midst of hustling all day, every day, in this bustling city, take some time out to meet and catch up with your friends and family! And the cornerstone of a great gathering, other than the latest news (and gossips), is the food. Instead of stressing out on what to cook for the highly judgmental group of people you love, why not cater a mini buffet? It’s a win-win situation: you will not be left out on the hot issue buzzing in your living room, and food will just magically appear at your doorstep without lifting a finger!
Chef’s Catering Supreme Mini Buffet is a halal certified 7 fixed courses buffet. It has a well-balanced variety of food that includes: rice, vegetables, seafood, chicken, egg, dessert and drinks. So how about the taste? Let’s get right into it:
1. Salted Egg Fried Oat Rice with Egg Yolk, Curry Leaf with Fish Sauce

I was skeptical about this dish as I’ve never tried oat rice and I was afraid that the salted egg taste would fail to come through. To my surprise, the fried oat rice was delicious, the salted egg was unmistaken and together with the curry leaf and fish sauce, it was so fragrant! That being said, this fried oat rice will complement the other side dishes well, as it is not overpowering with flavour.

2. 3 Colours Garden Vegetables

The 3 Colours Garden Vegetables is a mixture of Shiitake Mushrooms, Broccoli and Cauliflower. Presentation wise, it looks great with the different colours, and adding to that, the red from the wolfberries gives the dish a more vibrant look. Some people may worry that the vegetables like the broccoli and cauliflower might be under-cooked due to its thick stems, but not in this case. They were cooked just right and with the sauce, they were super tasty!

3. Curry Seafood with Soy Milk, Prawn, Squid & Spices

This curry seafood is my favourite dish here. Hear me out, the curry has the right consistency, and even though soy milk was used instead of coconut milk, it did not disappoint! The prawn was huge and succulent, and the fish and squid were so tender! And the best part was drizzling the curry over the fried rice, and that brought the meal to a whole new level.

4. Smoked Asian Herb Chicken with Smoked Marinated Chef’s Sauce

This smoked Asian herb chicken dish was satisfactory. The specially smoked marinated chef’s sauce was tasty and flavourful. However, some parts of the chicken were a little dry, but it was compensated by the marinated sauce which made it all right.

5. Japanese Steamed Egg with Organic Soya

This Japanese steamed egg was a close second to the curry seafood dish. Chef’s Catering used organic soya milk here and the steamed egg was very soft and fluffy. I’ve had many steamed eggs that were tasteless and this was the total opposite. Not your typical nothing-tasting steamed egg. It was packed with flavour and topped with preserved turnip (chai po), and that gave this dish the taste of home.

6. Osmanthus Fruit Ice Jelly

The Osmanthus fruit ice jelly was a nice and light dessert to have after a heavy meal. It was not too sweet and had a very clean taste. The longans at the base of the fruit jelly were juicy and sweet and really complemented the Osmanthus jelly.

7. Roselle Passion Fresh Fruit Juice

The roselle passion fresh fruit juice was delightful! There were fresh passion fruit and you can tell because the seeds are still intact. I am a fan of passion fruit, so this drink was my cup of tea. However, some might find the drink a little too sweet, especially towards the end where the passion fruit is resting at the bottom of the bottle. Might want to give it a good shake before consumption!
