Have you heard of some of the lucky foods that you should eat during CNY? If you wonder why you have been so lucky, or why you haven’t been the luckiest person in the past years, here are some foods that you should take note of, so that you can indulge in them this year!

Fish

Eating fish during CNY symbolizes an increase in fortune, to prosper in the new year. It is also a wish for wealth and abundance. An important thing to note is to make sure that the head and tail of the fish is intact, as it represents a good beginning and a good end for the coming year.

Dumplings

Dumplings look like silver ingots, hence, they symbolize wealth. Dumplings should be arranged in rows and not in circles, as arranging it in circles also means that you are not going anywhere but just going around in circles.

Nian Gao

Nian gao symbolizes growth. Eating nian gao during CNY is a wish for a higher income or position in society.

Longevity Noodles

Eating noodles during CNY symbolizes a wish for longevity. It is crucial that noodles must be uncut, as the length of the noodles represent your life span, so the longer, the better.

Oranges/Tangerines

The Chinese regard oranges as one of the auspicious foods that bring wealth and luck.

Pineapple Tarts

Pineapple tarts are sweet treats that we have during CNY, it symbolizes a sweet year ahead. The Hokkien pronunciation of pineapple, “Ong Lai” means that prosperity is on its way.
