Does Eating Late At Night Cause Weight Gain?
Ever have your parents warn you not to eat late into the night or read it somewhere on the internet to have your dinner before 7 pm et cetera?
We’ve all been there, at least for me. Skipping dinner totally just because I missed it afraid that it will bring me unnecessary weight gain.

Do you know?
Research has found out that when you eat is actually not as important as what you eat. Your body does not store more fat at night than at any time in the day. Nor does your metabolism slowdown in the evening. The reason behind weight gain or loss is simply, what you eat and how much you eat.
The truth is, your metabolism isn’t dependent on when you eat but rather what you eat. And every time you put food into your mouth, you burn calories. This process is called the “thermic effect of food” (TEF). Converting the food you eat into energy that helps you do everything such as breathing and walking, even sleeping.
The thermic effect is directly proportionate to your calorie intake and the food you eat. There are some foods that allow the thermic effect to work more efficiently, for instance, protein. And if the caloric intake and food choices are the same at the end of the day, there will be no metabolic difference whether you had 3 meals or 6 meals in a day.

In fact, studies have found that not having sufficient sleep can cause one to eat more, move less and gain weight.
Always remember that the total calories intake matter. It’s similar to a bank account, we only get a certain amount to spend daily, what you spend on is up to you. If you can’t give up that supper with your friends, that is totally fine. But remember to eat lesser in the day.
I know, life is already tiring at it is but plan your meals well and you get to enjoy the food that you love too! And when you do, trust me, food is magical.
