Fatty Daddy Fatty Mummy Review - Tingkat that Tastes Just like Home Cooked Food!

Fatty Daddy Fatty Mummy Review

Living alone and miss your Mom's home cooked food? No time to cook for your family? Well, Fatty Daddy Fatty Mommy (FDFM) is here to help! FDFM started out with the aim of helping working parents get healthy and homely meals, and have expanded to catering Mini Buffet, Tingkat as well as Lunch Boxes.

Check them out here: Fatty Daddy Fatty Mommy

FDFM has kindly offered us a 3-day trial dinner package for 2 pax, with either three dishes and a soup, or four dishes. Rice and Microwaveable containers are not available. The menus rotate every month and we get different dishes daily. Here's what we got to say about the dishes:

Day 1

Prawn Paste Chicken

Braised Turnip

Seasonal Vegetable

Fried Fishball with Onions

Review:

The Prawn Paste Chicken was marinated well and as fans of fried chicken, we found this dish comparable to the one from a typical "Tze Char" stall at your nearby coffee shop. Plus, one would avoid cooking such a dish at home as it takes a lot of time and effort to prepare, so being able to enjoy this delicacy at the comforts of your home is definitely a plus point for us.

Our favourite dish for the day was probably the Braised Turnip. The flavours of this dish was light, and the cook was able to retain the flavours of the turnip while still keeping it crunchy. The turnip presented here was fresh, and we polished off this dish easily.

The Seasonal Vegetables were also cooked in a stew style with carrots. The stew was not too thick, and the vegetables were fresh and vibrant.

The last dish of the day was the Fried Fishball with Onions. However, we found the taste of it to be slightly underwhelming relative to the other dishes we had that day.  The fishballs were cooked in a stew but we found that that did not really make a significant change to its overall taste.

For Day 1, we've got some hearty, home-cooked quality food and we enjoyed it.

Day 2

Stir Fried Pork with Ginger and Onion

Fried Beancurd with Oyster sauce

Seasonal Vegetable

Wedges

Review:

The dishes served were some of the dishes that we'll gladly enjoy and never grow tired of, something we would like to call our comfort food. In particular, we loved the Stir Fried Pork with Onion and Ginger, as the pork was cooked till tender and the ginger taste was not too overpowering. In addition, the portion of this dish was more than sufficient for 2 people, which is a plus if you are a heavy eater, or if you are sharing it with more than 2. Once again, the stew was not too salty and was a perfect combination with a warm bowl of rice.

The Fried Beancurd with Oyster sauce was overshadowed by the Stir Fried Pork with Onion and Ginger for the day but that's not to say that it did not taste good. The beancurd was fried before being stir fried with oyster sauce and mixed vegetables. This dish certainly did not taste overly salty at all. However, we felt that this dish could be done in a healthier manner such as replacing the fried beancurd with egg beancurd or soft beancurd to reduce the overall calories of this dish.

The Seasonal Vegetable for the day was Stir Fried Cabbage with Black Fungus and Carrots. The cabbage was not too soft, nor was it under-cooked and looked fresh and bright green.  This dish went well with the stir fried pork we had that day! When the dishes were delivered to us, the wedges were still slightly crispy. However, it is important to note that we consumed the food 20 minutes after it was delivered, and as with other fried items, the crispiness of them will decline as time goes by.

Day 3

Stewed Chicken with Mushrooms

Seasonal Vegetable

Omelette with Cai Po

Fish Nugget

Review:

It's the last day of the trial! As usual, we were served 4 dishes. The taste of the Stewed Chicken with Mushrooms reminded us of home. This dish felt like what one would typically have at home, great with a hot bowl of porridge or rice. Definitely one of the dishes we liked that day!

The Seasonal Vegetable of the day was Bok Choy. It was fresh and remained crunchy after cooking, just like how the vegetables were from the previous 2 days. The vegetables were generally very enjoyable.

We didn't enjoy the Omelette with Cai Po as much that day. We found the omelette to be a tad on the moist and soft side. We would have preferred the omelette to be fried longer and firmer. Perhaps, it would be difficult for omelettes to stay its shape or texture for Tingkat meals. We would it would be nice the omelette can be replaced with another dish like vegetables or a different side dish.

Lastly, we had Fish Nuggets to end off the trial package. One downside with Tingkat is that the Fried Finger Food generally do not hold well and can turn soggy after some time. A good tip would be to dry-fry them on a hot pan or to toss them into a toaster/oven when you receive them so you can have these fried items crispy and warm again!

Verdict

We've got to admit that the portions for all 3 days were generous. Our set for 2 was shared among the few of us, and there was enough to go around 4 to 5 pax!

The daily menu balanced the mix of proteins, carbs and veggies well. It is nice to note that FDFM is working with the Health Promotion Board to introduce healthier choice meals to customers who are health conscious! Moreover, FDFM's incorporates Asian fusion dishes such as Japanese Curry Chicken and Home Made Orange Chicken, adding variety and colour to their menu. One of our colleagues who is sensitive to high salt and MSG content was pleased to notice that the Tingkat meals did not leave her bloated or thirsty.
