How to Survive Working from Home with Family Members
I’m sure all of you have worked from home before. But with the entire family all at once? On the bright side, it may seem like it’s the weekends every day. But on the other hand, working from home with other working family members… Disclaimer: I love my family very much and nothing can change that. Or maybe working from home might.

It’s great, to see the family daily. On top of that, you get a home cooked meal and have someone to have lunch and dinner with. Then your mum barges into your room with your honey stars cereal during a video call with the entire department. This is when it becomes tricky.
So here are some rules that I’ve put in place, so that I can be productive, and my colleagues do not have to hear another dad joke from my father.
Sticky Notes

If you are working in your room, you can place sticky notes at the door. Like “In a meeting”, or “Busy” or “Napping”. Not that I take this perfect opportunity to nap on the job, but for those that do, there you go. This way your family will know if it is a good time to ask you to scratch their backs or change the toilet rolls.
Designated Workstations

It is important to be focused at work so that after all this is over, you are still employed. No, your boss wouldn’t care if your brother is distracting you with his TikToks. In order to be productive, create a personal workstation for yourselves. No distractions, no asking “what’s for lunch” 20 times a day before lunch and another 78 times of “what’s for dinner” after that.
Communication

Let your family members know what you are doing. I mean sure, they know the job you have, but do they know what are the things you need to do? Trust me, everyone will be more considerate around each other, if they know the importance of the work you do. So yes, communication.
Prioritise Your Tasks

Some tasks might be more important than others. So be smart, and prioritise your tasks. For those that require more attention, complete those tasks when the family is least obnoxious. And for me, that would be in the morning. So I complete the tasks that are more important in the morning. So that if I do get distracted and want to join in the family crazy later in the day, I can.
Apart from these tips, I wish you good luck. Working at home can be fun, so far for me, it feels like the weekends every other day!
