Is Diet Soda Good for You?
Have you ever wondered if diet soda is really a healthier option? Many of us choose diet soda just so we could enjoy a sweet and bubbly drink without consuming the unwanted calories and crazy amounts of sugar.
Diet soda is often soda that is made with less or no sugar. However, for varieties without sugar, they use artificial sweeteners such as saccharin or aspartame to achieve the sweet taste.
DO YOU KNOW?
Numerous studies have found some link between drinking too much diet soda and having some health conditions, including diabetes, fatty liver, dementia, heart disease and stroke.
In a 2012 study, it was suggested that diet soda might change how our brain responds to sweet flavours by affecting dopamine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in pleasure, motivation, and reward. In simpler terms, frequently drinking diet soda  could cause one to crave for more sweets including snacks and soda.
And in a 2017 study, data gathered indicated a link between diet soda and Alzheimer’s Disease. Results showed that drinking one diet soda per day almost tripled one’s risk of stroke and Alzheimer’s Disease (based on 2,888 subjects over 45 years old).
Although diet soda can be seen as a way for people to reduce their sugar consumption and has some other benefits, Â you may wish to consider slowly transitioning to healthier drinks like, for instance, sparking water eventually.
As what you consume on the daily directly impacts your health and life, do choose wisely!
