Buddha Jump Over The Wall (老火佛跳墙)
First up, we got to try Lao Huo Tang’s famous Buddha Jump Over The Wall soup. The name of this dish may come off as odd to some but as the name suggests, it is said to have such an alluring smell that the monks from olden times were tempted to jump over the wall, just to have a taste of this dish! A plethora of delicacies all in one pot, this dish is flavour packed with numerous ingredients, such as abalone, fish maw, tender boiled chicken and many more! Having boiled for several hours, you can imagine just how thick the broth of this soup is. Moreover, the abundance of red dates and wolfberries further enhanced the overall sweetness and tastefulness of the broth. This single dish makes it an ideal dish for sharing and welcoming the lunar new year in a blissful manner with your loved ones! It certainly was a dish that many of us came back for second servings!

Double Happiness Noodles (双喜粉面)
Next, we had the chance to dig in to the Double Happiness Noodles. Good things come in pairs, same goes for this dish that consists of two different kinds of noodles – Fried Bee Hoon and Mee Goreng. Now the dilemma of having to choose one can be resolved by having two different kinds of noodles for the price of one! Topped with a generous amount of fresh succulent shrimps, coupled with its intense flavours, this dish definitely gained its popularity amongst all of us. The only slight improvement we would recommend, would be for the Fried Bee Hoon to perhaps have some gravy cooked with it to prevent it from being too dry. Nonetheless, it was still a dish worth trying!

Roasted Crispy Chicken (脆皮童子鸡)
Another highly favoured dish would be the Roasted Crispy Chicken. Each piece of chicken was very well-seasoned and perfect in texture. Most of us were afraid that the dish would be a little dry during the delivery, however, it proved us all wrong! It was juicy and succulent which made it a highly addictive dish. On a side note, we would suggest that the chicken be roasted for a slightly longer period to allow the skin of the chicken to be crispier which would add more texture to the overall dish.

Salted Egg Pork Rib (咸疍排骨)
We also got to try their specialty Salted Egg Pork Rib. We’re in the era of salted-egg everything, and another new addition to the list would be the salted egg yolk pork ribs! Coated with a thick layer of freshly made salted egg yolk sauce, this dish would certainly be a popular dish amongst all during your reunion gatherings! Under the expertise of Lao Huo Tang’s chefs, the pork ribs were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crunchiness and tenderness. Afraid the sauce may be too overbearing? Fear not as the chilli-padi and curry leaves provides the dish the extra kick to balance the overall texture. Tip: you can try pairing this dish with the lettuce leaf as this would help reduce the greasiness.

Sweet & Sour Grouper (酸甜石斑鱼)
Another one of the winning dishes has got to be the sweet and sour grouper. With its well-balanced flavours and seasonings, it was highly appetizing and was a perfect complementary dish to every other dish on the menu! Furthermore, due to its freshness, there was no “fishy” tastes that many would fear when it comes to a fish dish. This certainly is a must try!

Steam Prawn with Spicy XO Sauce (辣味XO 酱蒸虾)
Are you a fan of steamed prawns? If you are, this has got to be the dish for you! Not only were the prawns very fresh, but they were cooked with Lao Huo Tang’s special spicy XO sauce that gave the dish the extra kick! However, the prawns could have been slightly less overcooked to prevent the texture from being a little on the tough side. All in all, it was still a very appetizing dish!

Broccoli with Scallop (西兰花炒带子)
Next up, we have Broccoli with Scallop. With a generous amount of fresh succulent scallops topped above a spread of fresh green broccoli mushroom and carrots, what more can we ask for? This dish was very appetizing and was quickly devoured by our team!

Thai Style Tofu (泰式豆腐)
A rather unique dish we got to try would be the Thai Style Tofu. The dish was light and refreshing as it was coupled together with grated vegetables as a salad. However, on a downside, the tofu could have used a tad bit more seasoning to further enhance the flavours. Nonetheless, it was a delicious dish whereby the tofu was fried to perfection with a soft texture on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Trio Combination Fried Goodness (香脆三宝)
Unsure of which finger-bites you wish to have at your celebrations? Lao Huo Tang has the solution for you! With their Trio Combination Fried Goodness, you and your guests have more varieties to choose from all in one dish! Their curry samosa, fried spring rolls and sotong balls were all quick to finish as they were the perfect light starters to complement the main dishes.
