Red or Yellow Watermelon?
While we are used to the vibrant red flesh of watermelon, are you aware of yellow watermelon? You can find it in many supermarkets. No, it is not colouring. Yellow watermelon is just the same as the usual watermelon, except that it is a natural variety of watermelons that experienced a genetic mutation in which it does not produce any lycopene.

If you are looking for an extra sweet and refreshing snack, yellow watermelon is a great choice. Some people say yellow watermelon tastes a bit like honey.
Yellow watermelon contains more beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant that may protect you against cancer, eye diseases and many other health benefits. When biting into a yellow watermelon, you can be assured it contains magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphours and potassium which all contribute to good heart health.
The similarity between both is that almost 92% of both watermelon varieties are made up of water. Red watermelon is red because of high percentage of Lycopene, it gives the flesh the deep rich color which is also the reason tomatoes are red. Also, red watermelon contains citrulline which is an amino acid that contributes to better blood flow.
The conclusion is that both watermelons have their own benefits but if you are looking for a sweeter taste, you can try yellow watermelon!
