Shi Fu Ge review – What’s an Oreo Cheese Crab?!
When I first heard the name of this unique dish, I was confused and a little curious. A medley of crushed Oreo bits with gooey cheese, atop of crab, was beyond my imagination! I couldn’t imagine how these 3 could combine to form one whole dish, but I am glad I tried this one-of-a-kind Oreo Cheese Crab a.k.a ‘Black Gold’ Crab from Shi Fu Ge.

[/embed]Many might find this peculiar crab dish to be bizarre – after all, it’s not every day you mix savoury cheese with sweet, crumbled Oreo bits! The first thing I noticed when it arrived, was that the Oreo bits were in a separate plastic bag so that you can pour it over the crab yourself once you start digging in. A small, yet important detail so that it won’t be soaked in the sauce and lose its crunch.

More often than not, eating crab is a luxury so I was anticipating finally trying this dish! When I took off the cover lid, I was hit with the aroma of the cheese sauce. It was fragrant and warm when it arrived, which I appreciated especially because it’s a seafood dish. The consistency of the savoury sauce was also more liquid than thick and creamy, which made the dish non-surfeiting in my opinion.

Since the crab was pre-cracked, I could easily pry the flesh out of its shell without much effort. The crab meat was succulent in every bite, and I savoured its fresh, natural sweetness. I could also taste the savoury cheesy sauce in every little corner of the crab and intermixed with the crumbled Oreo, the 2 distinct flavours worked in delightful harmony!

You can also order additional bite-sized Mantou buns to go along with this dish! I especially love to have Mantou buns with all my crab dishes, and this one is no exception. After taking a few more bites of the crab in this sweet yet savoury flavour, I started dipping the Mantou buns into the sauce and munching on them!
Is this dish worth the hype? I think that it’s definitely worth a try, especially if you’re feeling a little adventurous. This crab dish costs $41 for 600-700g of crab, or you can upsize to 750-800g for an additional charge of just $8! Check it out over HERE.
