Why do vegan burgers taste like meat?

I’m sure by now most of you would have heard about the Impossible Burger. People were most amazed at how the vegan meat tasted like real meat, beefy. How opinionated must I have been to think that those people that have tried the vegan burger, are delusional and just trying a tad too hard to convince themselves that vegan food is better than real meat. And I’m sure many of you vegan virgins have thought about this “Vegan food probably taste like bland ole vegetables.” And that just shuts down the thought of trying vegan food.
So here’s what I found out about why vegan meat tastes like beef. Vegan patties are made of soybeans. And soybeans contain leghaemoglobin, which is related to animals by myoglobin in the muscles and haemoglobin in the blood. That’s why vegan meat look, smell and taste of beef. Having said that, now that there is scientific evidence that people aren’t just making it up, would you try it? Now there isn’t really anything that is really stopping you is it?

But why should we go vegan anyways, meat tastes great. Why would I ever choose a vegan burger over a chicken burger? Let me share why we should try going vegan.
Firstly, for the environment. Rearing livestock, producing meat requires lots of energy. Large amounts of fossil fuel are burnt in raising, slaughtering and transporting the animals. Studies were conducted, and if the world were to go on a vegan diet, food-related emissions would be greatly reduced by 70%. I think this makes it a valid reason to even consider our change of diet.
Secondly, it would be health reasons. Having a vegan diet would allow you to lose weight naturally. Because your diet is plant based, this will help in reducing the risk of diseases like diabetes and heart-related diseases as well. So if you think about it, taking up a vegan diet may let you live longer.
Come to think of it, adopting a vegan diet may not be that bad after all, a longer life? Hmmm. Check out vegan options on www.foodline.sg!
