Why Is Choosing What to Eat So Difficult? 4 Ways to Simplify It.
"So what's for lunch?" I hear this a lot and it's actually haunting me every day. I can't seem to decide on what to eat when I'm alone, with my parents, with my colleagues or with my partner. I can't speak for all but I do have many friends and family members around me who can't decide too.
Is it because we are afraid of rejections if we were to suggest something to have for lunch? Or do we feel that whoever we are eating with is fussier with food than us?
Linda Sapadin, Ph.D. at Psych Central explains that whatever decision that we make forces us to shut the door on other possibilities. Before you taste the food, your mind has in fact, been through multiple rounds of “taste testing” and you will start worrying what if you make a wrong choice. I guess this is possibly why many of us can’t seem to decide on our meal choices as subconsciously we do not want to “shut the door” to us possibly having something else?
Sadly, we can't have it all, so read on to know how to make the ultimate decision during meal time!

#1 Elimination
Don't worry, we are not going to solve a math equation. Ask yourself or whoever you are with, if there are any requirements and how far are you willing to travel for food? Most importantly, imagine yourself after the meal you have chosen, will you be satisfied? Do you think it is worthy? What I normally do is come out with a list of 1-3 food that I would like to eat and eliminate from there.

#2 Power Shifting
Who says you have to decide yourself? If you have more than 1 people deciding, alternate the leader. If I choose what to eat this time round, then the next time would be you. Otherwise, bring it over to social media! Let your followers make the decisions for you, trust me it is easier that way. HAHA. Oh, and don't forget that trusty coin flip if you ran out of ways to shift the power!

#3 Be Adventurous
New food stall down the street? Your friend mentioned that this particular place is selling super affordable Japanese Cuisine? Random suggestion that pop up on your screen while scrolling through Facebook? Stop hesitating, you never try, you never know! Normally this will either let you fall in love or never return. But it is always a lesson well learnt.

#4 Wait It Out
If you still can't decide you might be too stress at that moment or maybe you are not even that hungry. So, wait it out, do not be impulsive (just like the punching bag I bought that has since been collecting dust)! You might start realising what you really want to eat or you are ready to make a decision again.
You can always open your fridge and check what you have left and save that few bucks!
It is easier to make decisions in advance, head over to FoodLine.sg and take a look at some of the menus for inspiration. Better still, place the order and just wait for it to be served!
