Lao Huo Tang Catering

I ordered food for 15 people at $36.80, but the portion was extremely insufficient. The soup came in one large container, yet it was only enough for about 7-8 people. Similarly, the fried rice was served in a small tray and could only feed 7-8 people as well. As a result, many guests were left hungry! This is the first time I’ve encountered a catering service that provides such small portions. It would be embarrassing to host an event with this caterer, only to have your guests go hungry!

The food arrived but the soup is changed without notice, should be herbal chicken but changed into lotus peanut soup.
The fish was very soaky and dry due to the sauce is poured onto the fried fish long before delivered.
the vegetable was abit sourish after an hour.

I patronise Lao Huo Tang at Star Vista & have never been disappointed with their food, especially their soups. So I thought catering from them would be the same. How utterly disappointing it was! Starting with the Yu Sheng - it was dismal in proportion, presentation & taste. I am NOT exaggerating when I say every single dish was tasteless, uninspiring & almost inedible (everyone took one bite of the dessert & stopped - it was that bad. My brother said it tasted like the water you had washed your table cloth in). It nearly ruined our Chinese New Eve. I’m not sure why all the food was so bad, was it because it was cooked in bulk in some central kitchen where the cooks couldn’t care less about the end product but was just churning out their “CNY scam” (as my other brother described it)? Whatever the case, I’ll never cater from LHT again but stick to dining at the Star Vista outlet.

They forgot to deliver the Yu Sheng, I called them & they sent the delivery driver back right away. I had no issue with their customer service & found them to be polite & helpful. If only the catered food was as good.

Ordered this set as part of family CNY eve celebration. The dessert ice jelly with honey lime was totally devoid of sugar and the rest of food items were of less salt taste( obviously had our health in mind). But we don’t mind as it is the food that bond us together.

I like their food at their restaurants, so I thought their catering would be of similar quality. That was a mistake.

The food was generally tasteless. They all sounded great on paper but the actual items weren't tasty. One positive thing is they were not salty, and the prawns were fresh and sweet.

They were also not responsive to my WhatsApp messages when I texted them one day prior to the day and again, on the day when they were late in delivering the food. They did mention to allow for 1 hour tolerance, so that's fine. But they should have at least sent a notification when food has been dispatched.

Chicken herbal ginseng soup was good but too little not enough for 10pax, had to order extra soup from Lao huo tang via panda food last minute. Grouper fish too hard. Overall food was acceptable and sufficient.

Food was generally ok. Sadly one of the cucumber shreds for the Yu Sheng dish was bad. It stank up the whole room when we opened the packet to prep the dish. Seriously thought one of the kids took a poo poo. Haha. Looking back at the pics and can see one of the colour of the packed veg was already off when it was just delivered. End up only 1 out of 2 Yu Sheng can be served up for my 20 guest. WhatsApp their service line to inform but sadly was ignored and no follow up. Lastly the salted egg pork chop was tough, good training for your teeth thou. Happy chewing!

Ordered the $23.90 mini buffet menu based on the good reviews. I was told by the contact person that the food items are cooked and delivered from the restaurant directly.
The disposable cutleries etc was in a reusable bag with Lexin branding on it .
Presentation of the dishes were good. However, of the 8 items, only the soup item (Buddha Jump Over the Wall) is delivered hot. The rest of the items are not even warm (feels like it was cooked at least an hour before delivering over). I have only tried the soup dishes from Lao Huo Tang before and it is still good so far. The pandan chicken and steamed prawns (though on dry side) is still quite tasty even when cold. Food portion is on small side for sweet and sour fish, and prawn rolls may taste better if they are crispier.
Messaged the contact person right after checking the food items and feedback they are cold and there is no response at all. :(

The fish didn’t cut and difficult for guest to eat. Rice too little for 15pax
