Mei Hao 99 Catering

This time round was very disappointing. food portion was very little.
order for 30pax , they only use a small water dispenser for the drinks. normally we order buffet they will give a standard size but this is those 30cm height water dispenser. Set up also not pleasant.

Signature Curry Chicken is great. Fried Shrimp Sausage Roll and Prawn w/ Salad Cream (De-Shell) are fantastic as these 2 dish are fully clear and probably it's also because the quantities are not really sufficient when I first saw upon delivery. The rest of the food are average.

Had high expectations for this caterer given the positive reviews on foodline, however, but was rather disappointed, possibly because we had better experience with other caterers before. On the overall, we feel we could have gotten better value for money with other caterers.

Dishes that did not turn out so well:
- Fried vermicelli with crab meat was rather dry and bland.
- Prawns were not fresh
- Sambal sotong was rubbery in texture and we would prefer the sauce to have more sambal taste to it. We were particularly disappointed with this dish cos we added money to change the fish dish to this.

Dishes that were so-so
- Pork ribs with champagne, meat can be a little tough
- Beancurd with crabmeat

Dishes that were good
- signature chicken curry
- braised duck with mushroom, the meat was tender

Worth the price

They are accommodative to my request to have half rice and noodle. Food came 30 mins later than stipulated time. Portion is generous. Overall food taste pretty good except for the fried rice w shrimp which is so dry and hard and there isn't any shrimp spotted. The oat battered sliced fish though smells good but all stick together and can't really taste fish meat but mainly the soggy deep fried oat battered. Perhaps is the way of presenting. This dish is on a oval plate covered with wrap. And the pink guava is like ice plain water, I am glad I had sea coconut w fungus as desert, we were drinking the desert water which taste so much better than the pink guava as drink. The braised duck is really good, is a must to have. The ingredients for Ee Fu noodle is so generous unlike the fried rice. You could really see whole mushroom and prawn. It never turned soggy even towards end of party. The coffee pork rib not so fantastic as it is quite hard.

Let's start of with whats good: The red bean soup was delicious and the delivery guy was very friendly. Good amount of utensils and cutlery given. Set up was fast and efficient. Mei Hao staff was also very accommodating when we wanted to change some of the items.

However, there were many disappointments.

Firstly, we were advised to state the delivery time as the time that the guests will arrive (which we had indicated as 6.45pm), and we were assured that the caterer would come around 30 minutes earlier to set up so that the food will be ready by the time we have indicated. It turned out that the caterer will come and set up at around 6.45pm. He came at around 7pm. By the time everything was ready, it was 7.30pm. With no one answering Mei Hao's number that day, it was extremely frustrating just waiting for the caterer to arrive.

We were very surprised (unfortunately, in a bad way) about the quantity of food. Having read many reviews regarding Mei Hao 99. we expected generous servings and proportions. However, the food was definitely not enough. We had 34 guests, and was advised to order for 30. Items such as the broccoli, fish, prawns and pork ribs ran out very quickly, such that we had a few guests who did not get to eat these items. There was a good amount of pineapple fried rice though - a full pan, the rest were all in half-pans.

And, lastly the drink. We ordered pink guava, and it was ridiculously sweet. After stirring the cordial and adding about 2 1.5L bottle of water, it was unbearably sweet. Our cordial was still almost full when the caterer came to clear the buffet.

They were punctual and food was ok. The staff were very friendly and set up the place nicely.

The food is generally decent but could be better

At 545pm, no sight of delivery, called HOTLINE, lady told me delivery had left, shld be here in awhile, 6pm, i called again to check if they are still on the way as guest are coming in.. the lady told me, she will check with the delivery guy..
630pm, i called again as she didnt not call me back, she told me the guys are stuck in traffic jam in serangoon, will be here at 7pm.

645pm - 740pm called and no answer from them..

I have no idea if they are coming a not. 50 over guest are waiting..
i had to order $300 worth of pizza.. Thank god kfc delivery was full, asked us to call back again 30mins later. if not, will be another 300 worth of kfc !

So when my 300 worth of pizza came, my buffet came too !
some of my guest already went back as little 1 is hungry !

HOW irresponsible can this MEIHAO be ! at least be HONEST and tell me will be late. THE anxiety that i am unknow if THEY Are coming a not is really not for weak heart !
