5 Healthiest Fruits

5 Healthiest Fruits

Consuming fruits have proven to prevent diseases and improve the condition of your health. The best part is that some of them taste amazing because they provide natural sugar as well, but did you know that there are around 2000 types of fruits in the world, and we only consume 10% of them? Every fruit has their benefits, but some fruits are packed with more vitamins and nutrients that are more effective if you’re looking to improve your diet. Read on for 5 healthiest fruits that will provide you with the nutrients that you need!

1. Grapefruits

Sweet, tart and sometimes bitter, grapefruits are citrus fruits that can come in pink, red or white. They are low in calories, yet full of important vitamins and nutrients that we need. In fact, grapefruits are believed to be one of the lowest calorie fruits! It is also rich in antioxidants and fiber, which can help to reduce heart diseases, prevent obesity and improve digestion. A study also suggests that grapefruits contain furanocoumarins, that can protect against oxidative stress, tumors and support healthy bones.

Grapefruits can be consumed in fruit salads or even blended to drink!

However, if you are on medication you may wish to see your doctor before adding it to your diet as grapefruits may cause adverse effects when consumed with certain medicines.

2. Pineapples

Pineapples, like grapefruits, are sweet and tart. They are exotic fruits that aid in reducing inflammation and promote healthy tissue growth. They contain an active compound called bromelain that helps in reducing sinusitis, and manganese while help to build healthy bones and tissues.

Pineapples can be eaten in fruit salads, as food toppings and even smoothies! Yum!

3. Avocados

Sometimes referred to as ‘superfood’ avocadoes are buttery, creamy and sweet that are packed with important nutrients. They are rich in oleic acid, which is monounsaturated fats. Don’t be fooled by the word ‘fats’ as these healthy fats help to lower cholesterol levels which can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, promoting heart health. Avocadoes are also rich in potassium and antioxidants that are important for healthy eyes and skin.

Avocadoes can be cut into smaller cubes for fruit salads, blended into smoothies or added into hummus for an even healthier choice!

4. Durians

Dubbed as the ‘king of fruits’, and it may come as a surprise to you, but durians have been proven to be rich in vitamin C, manganese, B-vitamins, copper, folate and magnesium. They also contain antioxidants and rich in plant nutrients that are able to reduce the risk of certain cancers, prevent heart diseases, fights infections and lowers blood sugar levels.

However, do note that consuming durians with alcohol can potentially be harmful as durians can prevent certain enzymes from breaking down alcohol, causing increased alcohol levels in the blood.

Durians are commonly consumed as desserts like ice cream or filled in pastries, eaten on its own, cooked in soup or drank as juice!

If you can stand the smell of durians, Double Durian’s Durian Spikey Cake is perfect for birthday celebrations! Available here: https://www.foodline.sg/d/14431

5. Olives

Unpopular but very nutritious, olives can be salty, pickled or sometimes even bitter but they are a great source of vitamin E, iron, copper and calcium. They also contain antioxidants that promote a healthy heart, prevents liver damage and has anti-inflammatory effects. Similar to avocados, olives contain oleic acid that improves the condition of your heart and prevents cancer. They are also believed to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, a condition of brittle bones.

Olives are perfect for pre-dinner snacks paired with cheese or nuts, used as salad toppings or even a replacement for cooking oil as a healthier choice!
