Bayfront Catering Review - Ayam Goodness!
Bayfront Catering Services prides themself to serve delectable food which enables you to make your own selection. They were kind enough to send four similar yet different bento sets for us to review! Why is it similar you may ask? Because all the dishes have Ayam (directly translates to chicken) in it. Then why is it different? Every chicken in each dish has been cooked differently, making the dishes unique on its own. Today, I will be sharing my pleasant experience with Bayfront Catering, so read on to find out more!
Ayam Penyet

First of all, letâs start with a dish most of us are familiar with - Ayam Penyet. It translates to chicken that is pressed or smashed to make it softer. This is a fried chicken dish served with sambal, rice, cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, fried tofu, and tempeh. If you love spicy food, this dish will definitely give you that kick. I personally cannot take spicy food very well, hence I tend to avoid it. To give you a gauge of my spicy tolerance, I can only eat xiao la (a little spicy) for my Mala, and thatâs all. No surprises, it was super spicy at first bite but hereâs the thing. I actually enjoyed the chicken. The chili sauce and chili pepper, albeit spicy, complemented well together with the juicy fried chicken skin and tender chicken meat when eaten in one bite, which made it so addictive I couldnât resist eating more.
Ayam Balado

Next, we have Ayam Balado. It translates to chicken with chili. It is served with sambal, rice, cucumber, lettuce, and fried tofu. This dish, compared to Ayam Penyet, was less spicy because the sambal chili sauce has tomatoes in it, adding sweetness to the sauce. However, once you eat more, you will feel the spiciness. A tip will be to eat the chicken with rice and sides so that it will be more manageable to eat. Also, the chicken meat was easy to tear, making it tender.
Ayam Kukus Pedas

We now have Ayam Kukus Pedas, which also means spicy boiled chicken. At first look, I thought it was going to be spicy because of the chili flakes on the chicken. However, after taking a bite, it wasnât as spicy as I thought it would be. I was able to taste the chili but the spiciness was manageable. With this dish being boiled, both the chicken skin and chicken meat was thus tender, and eating it with rice made it yummy. Also, if you do not like your chicken fried and prefer a healthier option, this dish is for you.
Ayam Merah

Lastly, we have Ayam Merah - which literally means âcooked-redâ. This red sauce also refers to mildly spiced tomato gravy which gave it a sweet and tangy flavour to the chicken. It is served with cucumbers, pineapples, onions, lettuce, cut-up chillies. I really liked this dish as well because I like everything with tomato sauce. Moreover, tender chicken coated with tomato sauce? Best combination ever. I suggest you eat the chicken, rice, and the sides to get a combination of flavours and texture in one spoon!
