Bowl Chap serves up savoury Japanese inspired fusion rice bowls with a local twist! They have kindly sent us four of their rice bowls and gyoza to review. I shall not beat around the bush and let you know that I enjoyed every single dish! If you want a detailed review of each dish, keep on reading! You can order from Bowl Chap here.
1. (Signature) Five Spice Apple Pork Bowl
This came with a serving of braised pork belly, sliced carrots, dashi infused black fungus and cherry tomatoes. Not to forget, a perfect onsen egg in the middle and the rice was drenched with braised sauce! The pork was super tender and had an amazing savoury flavour. The braised sauce was definitely well-absorbed by the meat.
2. Aburi Sambal Mayo Salmon Bowl
For the protein lovers, this is a bowl of hearty grilled salmon fillet cooked with robust sambal mayo sauce, accompanied with roasted pumpkins, spinach with chia see goma sauce and cherry tomatoes. The sambal mayo was certainly unique and added a subtle kick to the salmon! Not to mention, the salmon is blow torched to perfection!
3. Smoked Paprika Chicken Katsu Bowl
Apart from the smoked paprika chicken katsu, it also comes with roasted cauliflower & pumpkin, edamame, Indonesia curry sauce and dashi scrambled egg *contains shrimp*. The katsu was super crispy and the meat was tender and flavourful! The curry sauce really complemented well with the dish.
4. Aburi Tonkatsu Mayo Chicken Karaage Bowl
The karaage chicken chunks are rather large and succulent, tastier when it has absorbed some of the mayo sauce. The rice comes with a delectable homemade tare sauce and kizami nori. I think this would probably be a popular choice for kids! Overall a very well executed dish!
5. Aburi Tonkatsu Mayo Gyoza
These juicy pan-fried gyozas were amazinggggg. The gyoza had a nicely charred bottom and the well marinated pork filling was light yet flavourful, juicy and with the occasional crunch from a medley of vegetables. This is a perfect side dish to enjoy with your rice bowl!
