Dos:
#1 Spring Cleaning

It is believed that in order to wash away the bad luck of the past year, you should clean up your house! Cleaning sets the tone that it is a new year to have a new fresh start. However, do not sweep on the first day of CNY to avoid ‘sweeping away’ your wealth.
#2 Wear New Clothes

Similar to spring cleaning, wearing of new clothes and dressing well from head to toe symbolises a new start and fresh hopes for the New Year.
#3 Pay Off Debt

If you have any debts, pay off as many as soon as possible before CNY, so as to ‘close the books’ at the end of the year and start a more fortunate life.
Dont’s:
#1 Wash Hair

People normally do not wash their hair on the first day of CNY as in Chinese language, hair ‘fa’ has the same pronunciation as ‘fa’ in fa cai, which means ‘to become wealthy’. Hence washing your hair will mean to wash one’s fortune away at the beginning of the New Year.
#2 Use Sharp Objects

Avoid using any sharp objects within the 15 days of CNY as it can lead to inauspicious things and the depletion of wealth in the coming year.
#3 Crying

As CNY is a happy occasion, crying, especially of a child, is believed to bring bad luck to the family, so do not let anything ruin your mood!
