Whisk Management Review - Wholesome Family Meals!
Japanese rice bowls have been widely popular among many! Whisk Management has kindly sent some bento sets and donburis for us to review. Overall, every dish was well-executed and we genuinely had a great meal!

1. Hamachi Kama

Hamachi Kama is the collar of the yellowtail located just above the gills and below the head. It is the fattiest part of the fish, making it naturally juicy! The fish was really fresh, and had a nice balance of meat and fish oil, allowing it to have a nice melt-in-your-mouth texture!

2. Salmon Teriyaki

Next up we have a grilled salmon fillet topped with umami teriyaki sauce! With a slight coating of buttery fat, the salmon is rich and juicy. It’s so soft that it falls apart in pink giant flakes and when it enters your mouth, disintegrates instantaneously.
3. Salmon Mentai

We are huge fans of mentai and we definitely devoured this dish! The salmon was grilled to tender perfection and carpeted with a layer of torched mentaiko sauce, giving it a smokey accent. The generous amount of mentai definitely did not overpower the dish, so don't worry about it being too salty!
4. Chicken Karaage

Crispy, juicy fried chicken served on a bed of warm rice, this karaage don was certainly an instant hit in our office! The karaage was aromatic and fried till golden brown, giving the skin an amazing crisp texture! I can imagine this being super popular among the kids!
5. Teriyaki Chicken

I get a little disappointed when donburi bowls are stingy with their sauces, but this one has the perfect proportion. Lathered with sweet sticky teriyaki sauce, this rice bowl is a wonderful blend of sweet and savoury. The chicken was tender and flavourful! Super yummy!
6. Curry Don

I'm sure Japanese curry rice is a comfort food to many. For this, the curry sauce is served on the side – perfect if you like to control the amount of curry sauce on your rice. The curry sauce is rich and velvety, filled with chunks of potato and chicken. Be sure to portion out your curry sauce so that you won’t be left with plenty rice and no sauce!
7. Saba Shioyaki

Saba Shioyaki is grilled mackerel with salt, and it's a common everyday kind of seafood dish in Japan. Grilled to a light crisp, the mackerel was able to retain a perfect amount of juiciness. The amount of salt used was spot-on and highlighted the mackerel’s natural flavour really well.
8. Basque Burnt Cheesecake

Having tried many of the basque burnt cheesecakes out there, this is one of the better ones we’ve tried, and which stands out with its lush yet balanced profile of flavours. This cake ticks all the boxes: beautifully caramelised on the top, a slightly molten interior and a pleasant cheesy flavour.
