Yeh Lai Siang Catering Service Full Buffet Review

Yeh Lai Siang Catering Service Full Buffet Review

Yeh Lai Siang has been in the food industry in Singapore and China for over 30 years, providing food for all sorts of events: birthday parties, house warming, company functions - you name it, they’ve done it. This Mandarin Signature Menu that I have tried is at $15.80/pax where you can select 9 Food Items & 1 Drink. There are a few dishes in this menu that I absolutely love and you need to try it, read till the end to find out! Look out for discount code!

 1. Yeh's Hainanese Red Curry Chicken With Baby Potatoes

 .
The first thing that I realized from this Red Curry Chicken With Baby Potatoes is how fragrant the curry is. The smell of the curry leaves is very strong and the curry sauce has a mildly thick consistency, something that I appreciate. I always had the expectation that proteins cooked by buffet caterers would be hard but this chicken was quite tender! The potatoes were cooked till they were soft, but not brittle. This dish is generally not too spicy, just right for enjoyment.
 Rating: 4.9/5

 2. Yeh’s Homemade Pork Bun With Braised Meat

.
I had high hopes for this dish but to my dismay, the meat was rather tough. The meat was on a sweeter side and did not taste as savory as I’d like. But I must say the buns were good - soft, a little fluffy and sweet! I would most probably order other meat dishes like the Signature Teochew Braised Duck which is one of the Chef’s recommendations!
 Rating: 2.5/5

 3. Royal Butter, Honey Citrus Glazed Fish

I am personally not a fan of anything with too much butter but if you love the fragrance and creaminess of butter, this is for you! Thin skin This Royal Butter, Honey Citrus Glazed Fish has tender fish flesh coated with sweet and creamy butter sauce.
 Rating: 3.5/5

 4. Buttered Prawns

.
If you have eaten Chinese New Year’s crab stick crackers before, this Buttered Prawns tastes just like it. Because of the butter and curry leaves, this dish was really fragrant. You can tell that Yeh Lai Siang is not stingy at all because the prawns given were not small!
 Rating: 4/5

 5. Prawn Rolls

.
Also known as ‘Teochew Heyzor’, this Prawn Rolls was packed full of meat and I liked how there is a slight fragrance from tofu skin. I would have preferred it if there were some crunchy vegetable like the water chestnut in it. Regardless, this is still a decent dish to order.
 Rating: 3.5/5

 6. Longevity Bailing Mushroom Concoction, Topped Broccoli & Cauliflower

.
This dish is cooked with broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, corn and various types of mushrooms in a lightly flavored sauce. I personally found the broccoli and cauliflower to be more undercooked than desired. I would have preferred if the sauce has more flavor to it.
 Rating: 3.5/5

 7. Sin Chew Fried Bee Hoon

.
Yet another one of my favorites, this Sin Chew Fried Bee Hoon is fried with sausages, cabbage, carrots and eggs. It was nicely salted, best eaten with curry sauce! A dish that is cooked with simple ingredients but it tastes so delicious.
 Rating: 4.9/5

 8. Signature Wok Fried Sambal Squid

.
Along with squid, this dish consists of carrots, onions, celery and bell peppers. The dark sambal sauce goes very well with the ingredients used. I kept going back for more servings because the sauce had a sweet-savoury balance with slight spiciness, which appealed to my taste buds. I recommend eating it with coriander as it gives a refreshing taste.
 Rating: 4.9/5

 9. Sweet Yam With Pumpkin

.
This warm, comforting and nostalgic dessert easily comes in a close second. This dessert is topped with pumpkin slices, gingko nuts and coconut milk. This dessert felt like a healthier version of the normal yam paste because it was not very sweet as the sweetness only comes from the yam paste. I liked how the yam paste has a smooth texture, making it very easy to swallow and hence enjoyable to eat after a full meal. Highly recommend this!
 Rating: 4.5/5

 10. Iced Tropical Fruit Punch

.
This Iced Tropical Fruit Punch tasted sweet and fruity. However, I personally found the fruit punch beverage to be more artificially flavored than expected. There are other beverages like Blackcurrant and Orange squash that you can try!
 Rating: 2.5/5

Aligned with the current Safe Management Measures, Yeh Lai Siang provides hand sanitizers to ensure clean hands before your guests start to dine!

Overall, I would rate this menu a solid 4.0/5. My colleagues and I loved the Sin Chew Fried Bee Hoon and Yeh's Hainanese Red Curry Chicken With Baby Potatoes. Aside from these 2, my personal favorite is the Signature Wok Fried Sambal Squid. I highly recommend that you try these 3 dishes from Yeh Lai Siang.
