Alternatives to Coffee That Will Keep You Awake at Work

Alternatives to Coffee That Will Keep You Awake at Work

We can all agree that coffee is our holy grail to stay awake at work and some people even need it every day. Although there are certain benefits to consuming coffee, once you’re addicted, it may lead to certain health issues like heart problems, dehydration, headache and stress.

To the ones who are looking to reduce your caffeine intake, did you know that there are many drinks available that are healthier and have the same energy-boosting effect as coffee? Today, we have 5 alternatives for you that will make you put that cup of coffee you’re holding down!

  1. Dark Chocolate

Studies have shown that the darker the chocolate, the amount of theobromine increases. Theobromine is a similar chemical to caffeine, but a healthier alternative for energy boosting. Theobromine gives a gentle boost of energy that is smooth and long-lasting, and unlike caffeine it won’t make you feel jittery and nervous at all, thus making dark chocolate a great substitute to coffee. However, do consume it moderately as taking in too much dark chocolate may lead to high consumption of fat.

  1. Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass are great healthy energy boosts that have anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties as they contain lots of minerals and vitamins. They can also act as a hunger suppressant which can keep you full and energised for a long period of time. This is because they contain a range of B-vitamins and enzymes that not only helps to break down food but gives energy as well! Wheatgrass can be consumed in many ways as they come in powder, pills or ready-made liquid form that can be found in Chinese medical stores. Many people aren’t a fan of the taste of wheatgrass, so instead of drinking wheatgrass juice, they prefer taking in wheatgrass supplement tablets, which I think is a convenient and nutritious option!

  1. Green Tea

Green tea is a great start if you’re thinking of reducing your caffeine intake as it contains less caffeine than coffee and even black tea! Caffeine is released slowly into your body when you consume green tea, which will allow you to feel more relaxed and focused. It has also proven to prevent cancer, boosts metabolism and even increases brain power, which I’m sure will be able to keep you going for the rest of the day at work.

  1. Kombucha (SCOBY)

Kombucha, also known as SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast), is a product of fermenting black tea with bacteria, yeast and sugar. I know you’re probably feeling a tad bit disgusted right now, but I assure you that it’s packed with many health benefits! Kombucha can boost your immune system, improve cholesterol levels and blood glucose levels as it contains organic acids, amino acids and vitamins especially vitamin B, which has been proven to be an energy-boosting vitamin. Still feeling iffy about the idea? Kombucha tastes better if you ferment it with certain acidic fruits like pomegranates, grapefruits or oranges! They’re also fizzy, which is probably a plus point for people who love soda drinks.

  1. Smoothie

A great fix for the morning rush, smoothies can also be a delightful alternative to coffee. Grab some fruits and blend them with whole milk, almond milk, soymilk or even yoghurt and you’ll have the tastiest energy booster for the day! We recommend adding creamy and rich avocados or leafy greens in your smoothie recipe as they contain lots of important B-vitamins that can keep you energised for a great start to the day. For the health-conscious, opt for low-fat milk instead so you won’t feel guilty for consuming too much dairy products!
