Anjappar Review - Feast on a variety of authentic Indian cuisines

Anjappar Review - Feast on a variety of authentic Indian cuisines

Recently, we were pleased to have been able to try a variety of authentic Indian delicacies from Anjappar Restaurant. Anjappar Restaurant is one of the pioneer caterers that have mastered the art of using spices and created elaborated dishes that originated from Chennai, for people all over the world.  We were delighted to have a taste of the Corporate Buffet Menu ($28/pax) which comprises of the following dishes:

  • Tandoori Chicken
  • Chicken Lollypop
  • Chilli Fish Dry
  • Mutton dum Briyani
  • Vegetable Noodles
  • Butter naan
  • Parotta
  • Gobi Manchurian Dry
  • Panneer Butter Masala
  • Gulab Jamun
  • Lime Juice
  • Pappad
  • Raitha

Tandoori Chicken

First up, we got to try Anjappar’s specialty Tandoori Chicken. At first, we were afraid that the chicken would taste rather dry as it was not served with any sauces coated over. However, we were pleasantly surprised at how tender, moist and juicy the flesh of the chicken was. We highly recommend that you give this dish a try!

Chicken Lollypop

Next, we got to try the unique Chicken Lollypop. Each piece was crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. It was also seasoned with just the right amount of spices which made the chicken bursting with flavors. The lemon provided a hint of sourness and refreshing taste to the chicken! The caterer was also very thoughtful to have "lollipop-ed" the chicken, as we could easily devour the chicken off the bone. Do give this dish a try!

Rating: 3.5/5

Chili Fish Dry

We also had a taste of the Chilli Fish and loved the aromatic fragrance that it had. The chilli fish was marinated with a variety of spices which enhanced the flavors to the dish intensely. The flesh of the fish was soft, tender and moist. Each piece was also very well coated with their special spicy and sweet sauce that had a balance of aromatic flavors that made this highly addictive.

Rating: 3.5/5

Mutton dum Briyani

The Mutton Briyani had a perfect fusion of spices aroma and taste. This dish definitely reflects the Indian culinary heritage well with its intense flavors and numerous herbs and spices used to ensure the dish’s flavors were well-balanced.

The caterer did an exceptional job in cooking up this dish. The rice was light and fluffy, whilst the mutton was very well marinated with spices such as cumin powder, star anise and coriander power, which definitely helped to pack each mouthful with a burst full of flavors.

Rating: 4/5

Vegetable Noodles

We also got to try the vegetarian noodles. However, it was slightly disappointing as we felt that this dish was slightly lacking in flavor and seasonings as the taste was very light, and the noodles were quite dry. Perhaps it would be suitable to have a sauce or gravy served with this dish.

Rating: 3/5

Butter Naan & Parotta

Many of us were eager to dig in to the Butter Naan and Parotta with the Butter Masala. Both the butter naan and parotta was highly addictive as it was slightly chewy and had a buttery flavor that lingered in our mouths. It also coupled very well with the butter masala and raitha. We highly recommend that this dish is eaten hot, to fully enjoy the freshness of it.

Rating: 4/ 5

Paneer Butter Masala

The Paneer Butter Masala was another one of our favorites among the spread. It had a perfect combination of aromatic spices and creamy butter to its gravy that made it highly addictive. The consistency of the gravy was also just right, and clung onto each piece of naan and parotta that was dipped in very well.

Rating: 4/5

Gobi Manchurian Dry

Gobi Manchurian is an Indian Chinese dish, which consists of fried cauliflower. We felt that the caterer did very well in ensuring that the cauliflower was cooked to perfection - not too soft and not too hard.  Each piece of cauliflower was also well coated with sauce.

Rating: 3.5/5

Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun is a milk-solid based dessert. It is made mainly from milk solids, traditionally from Khoa, which is milk reduced to a consistency of soft dough.

Most of us has never tried this dish before and we were pleasantly surprised at how unique this dish tasted! The syrup had a thick consistency and thoroughly coated the Gulab Jamun balls. The Gulab Jamun balls were sweet and chewy, however we felt that this dish was slightly too sweet for some of us.

Rating: 3/5

Pappad

The Pappad was the first dish to be devoured by everyone! The pappad was thin and had a crisp and was perfect eaten alone or with the other dishes. It is a definite must have when feasting on Indian delicacies!

Rating: 5/5

Raitha

Raitha is another rather unique dish that we got to try. It is a fusion of yoghurt, a blend of spices, boondi and fried chickpeas. This is often served as a sauce that would pair very well with briyani and other Indian dishes .

Rating: 4/ 5

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience feasting on Anjappar's variety of authentic Indian delicacies. Whether it is for a small family gathering, a corporate event or a birthday part, Anjappar Restaurant has the catering solutions for you!
