Best Catering Review - CNY Happiness Reunion Set (Mini Buffet Catering)

Best Catering's latest Chinese New Year menus are out! With a ton of menus to choose from, we will be reviewing one of them today which is their Happiness Reunion Set (w/ Yusheng). I found their services rather professional as the delivery team made sure the order was correct and took the time to explain to us about every dish before they left! The food was still piping hot when we received them. As we took the lid off each item, the temptation to steal a bite from every dish was real because all of them looked so delicious! Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng

This Yusheng was really well plated in my opinion! If you seek traditional tastes, this Yusheng is the way to go. The line-up is very simple yet vibrantly gorgeous in each of the small containers. The premium salmon slices sit perfectly in the middle where it gets the most attention. Add in all the ingredients one by one and finish off with the sweet sauce to create a wonderful Yusheng!

Imperial Prawn Ball

These prawn balls were amazing! The prawn filling was soft and full of flavour. A generous amount of bits of water chestnut were used which gave a really good crunchy texture as a whole! The prawn balls were fried till a perfect golden brown, giving them a really appetizing appearance. I feel that I could snack on these at any time of the day because they are way too addictive, just one isn’t going to be enough. The prawn balls also come with a side of sweet dark sauce which gives an extra touch of sweetness!

Har Lok Prawn

These huge prawns were really succulent. Probably because it was deep-fried, the prawns retained a lot of their natural sweetness, and were super fresh! As a seafood person, I am very familiar with these little crustaceans and I can guarantee that these are good quality prawns. The garlicky tomato based sauce seeped through the cracks of the shell and gave the prawns a really good flavour. This in my opinion, really brought out the natural flavours of the prawn further!

Fortune Chestnut Chicken

Believe me when I say that this is the most tender chicken I have ever tried. It was so insanely tender that a slight tug on the wing separated it from the body. So tender, it was almost a melt-in-your-mouth kind of texture for me. The chicken was probably slow-cooked in the gravy for a period of time as it has fully absorbed all the essence from the herbs and seasonings used. When you dig into this one, you'll taste all the savoury juices in your entire palate, giving you the ultimate umami experience! This dish no doubt was the star of the show, and we polished off every single bit of meat from the bone.

Thai Style Fish Fillet

The fish fillets were firm and have a slight chewiness as all fresh fish do. The right amount of batter was used to coat the fish fillets and coupled with the Thai sweet chilli sauce that came with it, yum! This dish really made my heart feel fuzzy as it gives off a strong "homely" feel. Be warned though, the Thai sweet chilli sauce is unlike your usual chilli sauce and is exceptionally spicy even for a spicy food lover like me!

Spinach with Abalone Mushroom

Eating this dish reminded me of the old days where my Grandma would cook for the whole family because it really has a taste of home. The spinach was cooked till soft, almost giving you a creamy texture. I must say what really brought the whole dish together was the superior gravy used, coating every leaf of the spinach with its savoury flavour. The abalone mushrooms used in this dish really complimented the spinach here.

Mushroom Yam Rice

This was a no-frills dish made with simple ingredients but tasted so heavenly! Combining the mushrooms, yam and Chinese sausages were really the right choices in my opinion. I felt the combination gave the rice a nice overall earthy flavour. The aroma from the mushrooms was what gave the fragrance to the rice, which makes this dish even more delectable. I would say that the texture of the rice is a tad similar to sticky glutinous rice or “Lo Mai Gai”.

Ice Jelly with Fruit Cocktail

No meals would be "complete" without desserts in my opinion! Loaded with mixed fruits in a sweet syrup, this was so refreshing to have after enjoying all the other savoury dishes! This sweet and simple dessert would definitely be popular with all ages in all parties.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the food served. Everything was still hot and fresh, and the dishes were of high quality. As their name suggests, Best Catering is probably one of the better caterers out there and I think that you should definitely give this set a try!
