Chilli Manis - Allure Mini Buffet Review
Not sure which caterer to choose for your Christmas party this year? Don’t worry because we’re back with another Christmas buffet menu for you and this time it’s a delicious twist from Chilli Manis Catering! Chilli Manis serves the finest Peranakan cuisines and this year they’re offering a unique Peranakan take on Christmas courses!
1. Honey Chicken Ham

Drizzled with pineapple sauce and topped with pineapple chunks, this dish was sweet and appetizing and was a great starter to the subsequent dishes I was about to devour!
2. Blue Pea Flower Rice

The blue pea flower rice had a beautiful tint of blue and was pretty at first sight! At my first bite, it proved to not be just a pretty dish as the rice was sweet and fragrant. The sticky texture reminded me of glutinous rice, but it wasn’t too sticky which made it quite an enjoyable staple to the rest of the dishes.
3. Baked Dory Fillet with Lemon Juice

Chilli Manis was really generous with their portions as each portion of the dory fish was surprisingly thick and large. The sauce was light and creamy, which complemented the texture of the fish well as it wasn’t too hard or mushy. However, it didn’t occur to me at first that the sauce was supposed to be lemon juice, as it wasn’t tangy at all and the fish was a little too fishy for my liking but if the fishiness isn’t an issue for you, you’ll probably be able to enjoy this dish more!
4. Nonya Rendang Chicken

The rendang chicken was hands down everyone’s favourite dish. The curry was creamy, flavourful and sweet but not cloying. The chicken was enjoyable as it had the right texture of tenderness which made it really easy to tear and eat. Overall, this was a delightful dish and I’d like to recommend this as a must-have on your Christmas menu!
5. Sautéed Garden Vegetable in Butter Glaze

As the name suggests, the vegetables were buttery and well-cooked. The sauce also made the vegetables sweet and tasty!
6. Golden Cereal Prawn

The cereal flakes from this dish definitely need a special shout out from me! The cereal had the right balance of sweetness and I’m not sure how the chef did it, but the taste of cereal managed to cut right through, which I felt was quite rare as I wasn’t able to taste the cereal from most of the cereal prawn dishes I’ve tried before. The texture of the cereal was crunchy, and the taste was flavoursome as well. The shell of the prawns did not stick to the flesh, which proved that the prawns were quite fresh. This dish was easily one of the best cereal prawns I’ve ever tried!
7. Sotong You Tiao

With squid paste stuffed to the core, the sotong you tiao were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was savoury and when dipped with the sauce, there was a great balance of tastes as the sauce was sweet and zingy. This was another one of my favourites from this menu as well!
8. Roasted Strip Loin

Let me just say that Chilli Manis is such a thoughtful caterer! You don’t usually see caterers that offer strip loins presenting their dish with extra potato wedges and vegetables. The potato wedges and vegetables were tasty as well, however the strip loins were quite inconsistent as some slices were tougher than the others, which was a slight disappointment. Nonetheless, their plating for this dish was definitely a plus point for me.
9. Ice Jelly Cocktail

The cocktail once again proved that Chilli Manis is very generous with their portions! The jelly and fruits were plentiful, and it made sure that everyone got their fair share of dessert and was able to end our meal refreshingly.
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Overall, this has been such an enjoyable experience with Chilli Manis! Most of the dishes were delectable and the portions were generous. By the end of this meal, everyone was stuffed!
