Christmas Mini Festive Set - Katong Catering Review

Christmas Mini Festive Set - Katong Catering Review

Christmas is just around the corner and I think this is a great time to get together with your family and friends to spend some quality time together. And what better way to do that than over a feast? This Christmas, I think you guys should totally give Katong Catering a try!

Recently, we had the pleasure to give the all-new Christmas Mini Festive Set from Katong Catering a try! Here’s what we thought of the dishes.

The Set consists of 7 food items :

  • SELECTION OF CHRISTMAS COLD CUTS
  • OVEN-BAKED GARLIC PRAWNS
  • ARRABBIATA SEABASS FILLET
  • CHICKEN YAKITORI
  • BUTTER RICE
  • ITALIAN ROASTED VEGETABLES
  • MEDLEY OF PASTRIES

Selection of Christmas Cold Cuts

I thought the idea of Christmas would only be complete with turkey, ham and I wasn’t disappointed by this menu at all. In the menu was the selection of Christmas Cold Cuts which consisted of a variety of hams. I thought the ham slices were light and refreshing. They also didn’t taste overly salty, which I appreciate. The dish comes with a side of sweet cranberry sauce, which surprisingly went well with the hams. This was a dish that was polished off really quickly by the team. I felt that this was the star of the menu and they definitely added some festive vibes.

Oven-baked Garlic Prawns

The prawns tasted really fresh and were firm to the bite. They were perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of garlic, chilli flakes and parsley. This dish was really well done but if I had to nit-pick, perhaps a little more lemon juice could have been used to add some zest to this dish.

Arrabbiata Seabass Fillet

Looks really spicy eh? Being a spicy food lover, this dish really attracted my attention, and I couldn’t wait to taste it.

Interestingly, it was not as spicy as it looks. The fillets were well marinated with herbs and sat on a base of slightly spicy tomato puree and olives. Due to its tomato base, the sauce was not as spicy as you think, but still has a kick to it. I also liked how Katong Catering had chosen to use boneless seabass fillets here, making enjoying this dish a breeze.

As a whole, I enjoyed this dish a lot but a few of my colleagues felt that there was a bit of fishy aftertaste. I think a squeeze of lime/lemon would be good to alleviate this issue!

Chicken Yakitori

This was the dish that everyone had their eyes set on. Not only was the chicken yakitori tender but succulent too. The meat was marinated with teriyaki sauce and sprinkled with a generous amount of sesame seeds, giving them a slightly roasted flavour. The teriyaki sauce tasted both sweet and salty at the same time. I found that on their own, it can get a little overwhelming on the palate. Compliment it with rice or something light and it would be perfect!

Butter rice

Simple yet fulfilling, the butter rice provided a more wholesome taste as compared to plain white rice. A combination of bell peppers, raisins and various seeds were used here which gave the butter rice layers of textures. You could also taste a hint of sweetness from the raisins. I felt the butter rice is a little similar to biryani rice, where each grain of rice is really defined.

Italian roasted vegetables

After having the heavier dishes above, this dish will help cleanse your palate a little. The Italian roasted vegetables consisted of potatoes, carrots, zucchinis and pumpkins. A light seasoning of salt and pepper was used so you can taste the natural sweetness of these vegetables. They were roasted to perfection, with a slight smokiness and was tender to the bite. I guess this was probably the reason why this dish appealed to most of us.

Medley of pastries

Here are the desserts we had that day- Matcha Azuki Mousse Cake & Marshmallow Pecan Nut Brownie. The Matcha cakes had an earthy and nutty flavour to them while the brownies, on the other hand were really rich and chocolaty. I believe the brownies would definitely appeal to the younger kids with a sweet tooth. Both of these cakes were creamy and fluffy and I found them equally good. Besides, who would mind desserts? I know I wouldn’t!
