Do we need to charge our electronic devices before using it for the first time?
Ever heard from the salesperson âremember to charge your phone for 8 hours before usingâ. But come to think about it, it is quite rare to get this advice now.
Well, there is no right or wrong. The idea that we should fully charge our batteries before using it is from the older battery technologies. But the ones we have now are mainly lithium and is functional whether you give them that initial charge or not!

Fun Fact!
Do you know why your phones or electronic devices usually have some battery power when you unbox it brand new?
Manufacturers used to ship out batteries uncharged and untested. Now and then, the unlucky customer would end up with a defective battery, which is not great for business! The manufacturing company might end up footing the bill for a new phone, shipping or resources needed to appease their customer, maybe even the phone company.
Which is why manufacturers now have started giving batteries full charges back in their factory and that the phone company will also run their tests. That means the new phone battery has been charged lightly several times before reaching your hands!
The bottom line is, it does not hurt if you give your new phone a charge, but you can also grab it out of the box and go. Just that you have to remember to bring your portable charger as air traffic rules might have a limit to the amount of battery juice a battery can have if you know that your phone or device is ship from another country!
