Healthier Alternatives to Sugary Drinks!

Healthier Alternatives to Sugary Drinks!

Who’s guilty of having more sugary drinks than usual with this work from home situation? I know I am and working from home to me means the furthest I’ll walk to is my kitchen thus not being able to burn off these unwanted sugars from my favourite bottled green tea. These are legit concerns for me (and should be for you, too!) as too many sugary drinks may lead to weight gain, blood sugar problems and an increased risk of heart disease! It’s definitely okay to consume these sugary drinks once in a while, but if you really need to satisfy your sweet tooth, here are some healthier alternatives to sugary drinks that might work for you!

Smoothies

Perfect to cool off during the hot and humid weather we’ve been experiencing the past few weeks, smoothies are delicious and quick to make as well! Try using unsweetened milk like coconut or soy milk and blend them with some naturally sweet fruits like frozen bananas or berries.

Apple cinnamon, mint or berry tea are naturally sweetened tea that can be a healthier alternative to sugary drinks!

Carbonated Water

Love soda? Swap that sinful can of coke for fruit-infused carbonated water! Try infusing lemon, fresh berries, mint, or herbs with carbonated water. If they’re still too bland for you, adding fruit juice to carbonated water works too and will help to minimize your sugar intake.

Homemade Flavoured Milk

Do you know that commercially flavoured milk contains about 25g or sugar per cup? That’s about 6 teaspoons of sugar! Make your own chocolate milk by adding cocoa powder and blend in hot milk or add organic vanilla instead of vanilla syrup for a delicious vanilla flavoured milk.

Herbal Tea

Herbal teas have a naturally sweet flavour so extra sugar is not needed at all! Ginger, dandelion, hibiscus, and rooibos tea are a few herbal tea flavours you can try.

Are the drinks still too bland for you? Honey is a natural sweetener and a great healthier alternative to sugar and can be added into your smoothie and tea! The next time you're craving for some sugary drinks, do give these alternatives a try!
