Halloween's origin date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts, an area that is mostly now Ireland, celebrated their annual new year on November 1. The Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the worlds of the living and the dead will merge which means they believed that ghosts actually returned to earth.
To celebrate this event, they built huge sacred bonfires to allow people to gather and burn crops and animals as sacrifices. They also wore costumes to celebrate this event.
This celebration then grew over the years and over the world, a new American Tradition was born and it has continued to grow. Did you know Halloween is the second largest commercial holiday after Christmas in America.
As more and more people celebrate Halloween each year, it only gets better with more horror films, haunted houses and more scary events!
