Whether its for a mini-gathering, a birthday party, a corporate event or any special occasion, Mum's Kitchen is the ideal caterer that would ensure that you and your guest's cravings are completely satisfied. Mum's Kitchen has since established a reputable name for themselves due to their constant dedication in providing quality dishes that are tailored to suit various preferences and requirements.

Recently, we were delighted to receive a mouth-watering spread of dishes specially put together by Mum's Kitchen. The set-up was absolutely gorgeous. The caterer gave a lot of thought in ensuring that the decorations, lighting and layout are done with much precision to suit the venue. Below are the following dishes we had the opportunity to try:

Calypso Prawn Salad

One of the first few dishes we dug in was the Calypso Prawn Salad. This dish consisted of fresh prawns dipped in thousand island sauce and mixed together with finely diced dragonfruit, melon and a slice of black olive. Together, this combination of seafood and fruits was definitely a great refreshing starter to the buffet! The prawns were fresh and absorbed the fruity essence from the melon and dragonfruit. The sauce was also not too overpowering and was able to tie the various components of the dish together very well. We highly recommend that this dish is eaten chilled.

Pan Seared Sea Scallop (with Japanese Seaweed, Citrus Dressing & Caviar)

The Pan Seared Sea Scallop was everyone’s favorite pick! The scallop was cooked to perfection, with a slight crunch on the outside, soft, moist and buttery on the inside. The citrus dressing given was just the right amount - enough to enhance the flavor of the scallop but at the same time not too overpowering. The caviar topping added extra texture and slight saltiness to the dish which made it even more appetizing! This dish is a definite must try!

Smoked Duck Breast (with Melon & Raspberry Vinaigrette)

This dish was another popular dish among our colleagues. The thinly sliced Smoked Duck Breast was perfect as a starter dish. There was a perfect balance of sweetness (from the Raspberry Vinaigrette) and saltiness (from the duck). The fruits also added a refreshing crunch to the dish. However, some of us felt that the melon was too chunky and overpowered the taste of the smoked duck. One recommendation we have would be to slice or dice the melon to a slightly smaller piece so that it compliments the smoked duck breast without overpowering it.

INTERNATIONAL CUISINES


Grilled Teriyaki Chicken

This Grilled Teriyaki Chicken here was another highly raved dish amongst the spread. Each piece of chicken was cooked perfectly and was tender and moist. The teriyaki sauce had just the right starchy consistency which helped to coat each piece of chicken very well. It also had a good balance of sweetness and saltiness to it that made it highly addictive. With the diced Japanese shinko and sprinkles of sesame seed on top, it further added to the fragrance of the dish and provided a crunch element to the dish.

Cajun Fish Fillet with Mango Salsa

This dish was rather appetizing due to its numerous ingredients used to enhance its flavors. The Cajun Fish Fillet was perfectly cooked and marinated. The flesh was soft and tender, and we could taste the burst of flavors from the paprika, garlic, thyme and many more seasonings. The small diced mango bits in the mango salsa and creamy mango sauce added natural sweetness to the overall dish and left a pleasant hint of fruity taste that lingered in our mouths. We felt that it was very smart of the caterer to use fruits as a garnish and in the sauce as it gives the dish the extra refreshing finish to it.

Tiger Prawn in Chilli Crab Sauce (Served with Deep Fried Mantou)

Another one of our personal favourite dishes would be this dish right here. If you’re a fan of chilli crab and fresh prawns, this is definitely the dish for you! Instead of the usual crab in chilli crab sauce, the caterer has substituted crabs for large fresh tiger prawns instead. The prawns were fresh and succulent, and even though it was encased in shells, the flesh of the prawns was able to absorb the intense flavours from the chilli crab gravy. The sauce was mixed with egg which gave it a slightly thick consistency. We were delighted to have the fried mantou to go with this dish as this has allowed us to dip them in the chilli crab gravy which many of us loved! We highly recommend that you give this dish a try!

Country Style Wok Fried Rice with Silver Fish 

We also got to try the Country Style Wok Fried Rice with Silver Fish. The moment we lifted the lid, the aroma form the various ingredients such as fried onions, chilli, spring onions and silver fish filled the air. The green peas and carrots also provided a crunch element to the dish. A slight downside to the dish would be that we felt that the rice could have been slightly more moist as it was a little dry and lacked some seasoning. Nonetheless, it was still a dish well done and went very well with the other dishes provided

NOODLE BAR

Mum’s Signature Mee Siam

Mum’s Kitchen Signature Mee Siam was definitely one of the winners of the spread. The caterer was very thoughtful to have separated the variety of toppings from the noodles to prevent the dish from becoming soggy. The noodles were cooked to perfection and had a slightly springy texture. At first, many of us feared that the mee siam gravy may be too sour, however, we were pleasantly surprised at how well balanced the flavours were, with just the right amount of sourness, sweetness, and saltiness to it. The caterer was also very generous with the amount of ingredient toppings provided. The large and fresh tiger prawns were nicely peeled. There were also quail eggs, tao pok, sambal chilli and lime provided as a side for each individual to add in themselves. This dish left many coming back for second servings and we highly recommend that you give it a try yourself too!

DESSERTS CORNER

 

Strawberry and Vanilla Trifle

This dessert had colourful dried fruits layered with sweetened whipped cream and soft vanilla cake chunk, easily making it everyone’s favourite dessert! The different items in the dessert complemented each other really well and the portion of the dessert was just right, making each spoonful bursting with flavours!

Homemade Pulut Tai Tai with Kaya Jam

The Pulut Tai Tai is a very traditional dessert that many of us were pleasantly surprised with. The base kuih is made of blue glutinous rice steamed in coconut milk. The kaya topping further enhanced the flavour and essence of the dish. The slight tinge of saltiness together with the sweetness from the kaya made this kuih a perfect dessert to savour!

Miniature Cakes and Pastries

The Miniature Cakes and Pastries Platter consisted of Cream Puffs, Coffee Swiss Roll, Brownie, and Marble Cake. The caterer was very thoughtful to mix and match different pastries to cater to the different taste buds of everyone!  The cream puffs were light and fluffy, and the cream oozed out the moment we sunk our teeth into it. The Coffee Swiss Roll and Marble cake were soft and were perfect for those who prefer a light dessert after a full scrumptious meal. The brownie was the most popular item among all of our colleagues out of the spread. The brownie was baked to perfection with a slightly chewy consistency, but moist at the same time. The texture was perfect and exactly what we would look for in a brownie. The chocolate flavors were also rich and intense! Give this variety of mini cakes and pastries a try for yourself!

All in all, we had an extremely pleasant experience indulging in Mum's Kitchen's quality dishes. No doubt was this one of our most enjoyable dining experiences yet! We highly recommend that you give them a try!
