Om Nom Taste of Thai Review - Best Thai Cuisine for you this Christmas!
When we say Christmas Feast, the usual turkeys, log cakes and the like will come to our minds. We know this can make us feel pretty blasé when it comes to Christmas Feasts. How about spicing things up this Christmas? Om Nom Taste of Thai has put together 3 Thai-inspired menus for you this Christmas to suit your varying needs!
Om Nom Taste of Thai has kindly sent us the Christmas Soiree Feast to try.
The Christmas Soiree Feast comes with:
- Satay Party Sticks (Chicken & Pork Stick)
- Pan Fried Scallops in Thai Sauce
- Grilled Garlic Prawns
- Thai Mango Crispy Fish Salad
- Grilled Whole Lemon Chicken
- Red Curry Roasted Duck
- Crabmeat Fried Rice
- Tempura Vegetables
- Thai Coconut Jelly Agar

Before we start with the food, can we just talk about how thoughtful the caterer was with packing the food? All sauces were separated and labelled so you know what to use them for and the curry was also sealed with cling-wrap to prevent spillage during delivery. 👍
The Thai Mango Salad (above) was separated from the crispy breaded fish so you can be assured that the Thai Mango Crispy Fish Salad would not reach you soggy and unappetizing!

First up, we have the Satay Party Sticks (Chicken & Pork Sticks). They came with a separate peanut satay sauce which you can either dip the sticks into or drench the entire dish with. It's entirely up to you! We found this dish slightly underwhelming. However, even though chicken breasts were used for the chicken sticks, they were not too dry and still maintained some juiciness and were tender. The pork sticks were tender too!

The Pan Fried Scallops in Thai Sauce came with lemon wedges and asparagus. The scallops were quite big and fresh! Squeezing the lemon wedges over the scallops added a refreshing twist to it.

Next up, we had the Grilled Garlic Prawns. We felt that this dish could have been done better. There was a very slight garlic taste to it which we felt could have been stronger since they were afterall, supposed to be Grilled Garlic Prawns. Nevertheless, the prawns used were fresh and succulent!

One of the stars from the spread was this Thai Mango Crispy Fish Salad! A unanimous 9/10 from all of us! The breaded fish arrived us warm and still crispy, pretty remarkable for fried food from a mini buffet spread where no buffet warmers are available. The crispy breaded fish paired with the refreshing and light Thai Mango Salad, just "Aroi Mak Mak*"!

We also had the Grilled Whole Lemon Chicken which was nicely marinated without being too salty. We know that one of the concerns with grilled/roasted chicken is that the meat tends to be dry or tough but this one wasn't at all! The chicken also went well with the Thai Chili that was given.

The Red Curry Roasted Duck was the main star of this spread! We're not sure about you but all of us here haven't had curry with duck before so we found this dish to be pretty intriguing. Moreover, when we dived into this dish, interestingly, we found that grapes were used along with several other herbs, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and sliced duck. Upon checking with the chef, we found that the Traditional Thai Red Curry actually uses grapes but unfortunately many choose to save on cost by omitting them entirely.
What we felt the use of the grapes did was that they added a touch of "fruity-sweetness" in the curry. Overall, you could taste the richness of the curry without it being too cloying and all of us could taste the lemongrass used which we felt was important for a Thai curry. Thumbs up from all of us! 😊

The Crabmeat Fried Rice was a dish that was done quite well in our opinion. You know how some fried rice tend to clump together? Well, this one from Om Nom Taste of Thai certainly did not.

We thought that the Tempura Vegetables were quite tasty given how crispy they still were when we received them and they also went well with the sweet & spicy chili dip. A pity though, was that the batter coating the vegetables was a little on the thick side so eating these can get quite sickening after a while.

What's a feast without some desserts? We received the Thai Coconut Jelly Agar as the Thai Mango Jelly Agar wasn't available on the day of our order. They were a delightful dessert to have after our feast and you could taste the real coconut flesh used for this jelly. 8.5/10!
