Om Nom Taste of Thai Review - Have yourself a fan-Thai’s-tic feast this Chinese New Year!

When we mention a Chinese New Year feast, braised abalone with mushrooms, or the other usual common dishes will come to mind. How about giving your Chinese New Year feast a twist this year with a fusion of Thai cuisines with traditional Chinese delicacies?

Om Nom Taste of Thai Catering has specially delivered to us their Everlasting Blissful Set that comes with a wide variety of dishes to feast on.

The Everlasting Blissful Set menu consists of:

• Thai Abalone Yu Sheng
• Thai Pork Salad Cucumber Bites

Before we begin with the food, can we just mention how thoughtful the caterer was with the overall packaging of the feast! Each item was carefully packed and cling-wrapped to prevent any spillage of the sauce and gravy. The dishes and sauces were also labelled carefully so that customers are well aware of which sauce to use for which dish. Condiments were also separated from the main dishes to allow customers to add the toppings to their liking, which also helped to prevent the condiments from becoming soggy.

Thai Abalone Yu Sheng

First up, we have the Thai Abalone Yu Sheng. All the condiments to be added to enhance the dish was packed individually and labelled carefully. This dish was not only full of flavours, but it was very refreshing as well with its well-balanced amount of sauces and freshly grated vegetables. The caterer was also very generous with the amount of abalone included in the dish to ensure everyone got one with every mouthful of Yu Sheng!

Thai Pork Salad Cucumber Bites

Next up, we have the Thai Pork Salad with Cucumber Bites. This was a popular item amongst all of us! Coupled with their unique chilli oil sauce, this dish was a burst full of flavours. Having a slice of cucumber paired between each slice of pork slice sure made the dish a lot more refreshing and juicy!

Son-in-Law Egg

One of the unique items would be the Son-in-Law Egg. You can tell right from the name, that this dish is something special and unique! We were pleasantly surprised at how tasty this dish was when it was coupled with the sweet savoury sauce that was provided with it. Stir fried with dried red chillies definitely gave that extra punch of flavour that led to many of us going back for second servings!

Braised Shark Fin Soup

The Braised Sharks Fin Soup was one of the winning dishes from the whole spread! We were delighted to see how thoughtful the caterer was in packing all the condiments and seasonings needed to enhance the flavours of the shark’s fin soup. The toppings and sharks fin were also packed in separate packets and containers to prevent it from becoming too soggy. It also provided ease in distributing them into individual portions. All in all, the soup broth was very rich in flavours and defintiely deserved a thumbs up!

Stir Fry Fish Maw

Another rather appetizing and unique dish would be the Stir-Fried Fish Maw! We were all pleasantly surprised with how tasty this dish was! Each piece of fish maw had absorbed a well balance of spices and was rather tender in texture, which played a part in it being highly addictive.

Peppercorn Seabass

Next, we have the Peppercorn Seabass. Many often avoid fish dishes with the fear of it being “too fishy”. However, this dish was perfect in flavour and texture! Despite it being kept inside a take-out tray with its lid on during delivery, it was still warm on the inside and crispy in texture on the outside. The seabass paired with Om Nom Taste of Thai’s sweet Thai-chilli sauce was simply delicious!

Grilled Pork Collar

Another one of the stars of the spread would be the Grilled Pork Collar. At one glance, this dish looks like any other ordinary meat dish. However, the moment you sink your teeth into the slices of pork, the tenderness, coupled with the burst of flavours in your mouth would leave your taste buds calling for second servings! Every bite of the meat was tender and juicy, which deserves an excellent rating of 5/5! Would highly recommend for you to give this dish a try!

Broccoli with Sea Cucumber

We also had the Broccoli with Sea Cucumber. However, we felt that the sea cucumber was slightly too crunchy in texture and would have been better if it had been braised for a longer period. Nevertheless, the broccoli, mushroom and sea cucumber coupled with the gravy was a perfect mix!

Tomyam Fried Rice

The Tomyam Fried Rice was another dish that was highly favoured amongst everyone! Many expected it to be clumped up due to the moisture that accumulates after being kept in a take-out tray for a period, however, it certainly proved us wrong! Om Nom Taste of Thai did very well in ensuring that the fried rice was perfect in texture and had a punch full of tom yam flavours! The prawns were also very fresh and succulent!

Red Ruby & Pumpkin in Coconut Cream

What’s a better way to end a feast, other than having some desserts!  We tried Om Nom Taste of Thai’s Red Ruby and Pumpkin in Coconut Cream for dessert! The dessert was slightly too sweet for majority of us, however, it was still a delightful dessert as the red ruby, pumpkin and coconut cream enhanced the overall flavours and added creaminess to the entire dish.
