Chinese New Year is undeniably one of the most important events for most Chinese. How to Lo-Hei? (Yusheng-Tossing)

Recommended sequence for your Yusheng as follows:

1. Ee Fu Noodles with Fresh Shiitake

This dish was one of the favourites with the team. All of us agreed that Ee Fu Noodles when not done right, could soak up too much oil and feel heavy on the palate. However, we felt that this dish was done right by On & On Diners in every way. Stir fried with generous amounts of Shiitake mushrooms with not too much oil and salt used, this dish felt healthy and was so tasty! Many of us went for second and third servings!

Rating: 4.5/5

2. Yang Zhou Fried Rice

This was the other staple we had in this mini buffet spread. The fried rice had a light "wok hei" taste and was seasoned just right. We know how annoying it can be when the rice from a fried rice dish stick together and become a clumpy wet mess. Well, you've nothing to worry about here! We could taste every grain of fluffy, light rice in this dish. Yummmm!

Rating: 4/5

3. Australian Broccoli with Baby Abalones

Abalones are undoubtedly one of the quintessential food items to have on every dinner table during the Chinese New Year. This is because abalones symbolises "good fortune" as its Chinese name (鳆) has the same pronunciation as "fortune" (福). So... Baby abalones with our broccoli? Yes please! We all want ourselves some good fortune too! The broccoli in this dish were cooked just right, maintaining their green and had a slight crunch to the bite. The baby abalones' light natural sweetness was a welcomed addition to this dish and did not feel too tough to bite into as well.

Rating: 4/5

4. Herbal Chicken with Goji Berries

Real herbs were used for the Herbal Chicken with Goji Berries. Some of the herbs we spotted and identified were the Dang Gui (Chinese Angelica Root), Yu Zhu (Solomon’s Seal Rhizome), Dang Shen (Codonopsis Root) and of course, the Goji Berries. The chicken pieces were all cooked till tender and have all absorbed the sweetness and slight bitterness from the herbs. It was truly a hearty and herbal-y dish to go along with our staples.

Rating 4.5/5

5. Teochew Braised Duck with Peanuts & Beancurd

Next up, we had the Teochew Braised Duck with Peanuts & Beancurd. Beancurd wasn't available during the time of delivery and was hence omitted here but this dish was still nevertheless delicious! However, we felt the duck could have been braised for a tad longer as some of us felt the meat was a bit tough. Overall, this was quite a flavourful and satisfactory dish.

Rating: 3.5/5

6. Signature Buttery Salted Egg Yolk Fish

Salted egg yolk dishes and snacks are all the rage now and we're totally onto this salted-egg-anything bandwagon! We were so excited to receive these Signature Buttery Salted Egg Yolk Fish from On & On Diners and they truly did not disappoint. When these reached us, they were still warm and crispy which was a nice touch to our feast. The fish pieces were not overly battered and had a nice salted egg yolk and a very slight spicy kick to the taste. The only feedback we had for this dish was that some fish pieces were coated with too much of the salted egg yolk sauce, which can taste a little cloying and salty after having a few pieces.

Rating: 4/5

7. Tofu Prawns in Chili Crab Sauce Served with golden man tous

This dish was an interesting mix of prawns and egg tofu pieces in a chili crab sauce. The prawns were succulent and fresh and went very well with the sauce. The flavour-rich chili crab sauce would be a great combination with man tous which were also thoughtfully included in the menu by On & On Diners. This dish was easily polished off by the team.

Rating: 4.5/5

8. Chilled 8 Treasure Cheng Teng

The 8 Treasure Cheng Teng we received in this feast was LOADED with so many ingredients such as ginkgo nuts, barley, snow fungus, dried longan and more. The dessert was not too sweet and was a very welcomed refreshing dessert to have after a heavy meal. Many of us went for multiple servings of this dessert!

Rating: 4.5/5

As a whole, we really enjoyed the CNY Mini Buffet $288 Per Set from On & On Diners and would give this an overall rating of 4.5/5! Our top 3 favourites were the Ee Fu Noodles with Fresh Shiitake, Tofu Prawns in Chili Crab Sauce Served with golden man tous and the Chilled 8 Treasure Cheng Teng!
