Signature Kampong Fried Mee Siam

Having had my fair share of the fried mee siam from various places, I can safely say that this one from Savoury Catering is one of the nicer ones I've tasted. The noodles were springy and not too dry. The thinly shredded egg crepes and vegetables were a nice addition to this dish. If you're not one who can take spicy food well, you may wish to know the noodles can get a little spicy. As a whole, this was a rather enjoyable dish for us. I personally thought that more Calamansi could've been provided to add more tang to this dish, akin to the conventional mee siam dish.

Signature Ayam Buah Keluak

Watch out! This dish can really pack quite a punch. Initially hesitant to try due to its fiery red appearance, I finally mustered up the courage to try this dish and I was not disappointed at all! This dish almost tasted like a super lemak version of the curry chicken except there were no potatoes used. And the use of Buah Keluak nuts here added earthy notes to this dish. A pretty interesting mix of flavours and was an easy-to-love dish by all.

Curry Assam Fish

It was such a hassle-free dish to have as fish fillets were used. The curry was tangy and spicy which complemented the fish and the various vegetables used. It was a refreshing dish to have and was not surfeiting at all. Yum!

Nonya Chap Chye with Mushroom

I was pleasantly surprised to find a good variety of vegetables used here. A no-frills Nonya Chap Chye dish, all of us really enjoyed it.

Otah Wrapped with Banana Leaf

These dainty little things were really delicious! You could taste the generous use of chunks of fish meat in these little packets of otah. Many of us wished we could go for our second servings however there were only just nice to go around.

Udang Goreng Assam

This dish is essentially prawns stir-fried with Assam paste and various other seasonings. The result? A mildly spicy dish with just a hint of sweetness. The prawns were really fresh and succulent, with the shells of the prawns coming right off easily.
Taste Rating: 4/5
Assorted Nonya Kueh

No meal, in my opinion, is complete without desserts and we were truly glad to receive this platter of Assorted Nonya Kuehs from Savoury Catering! The kuehs were done with the right amount of sweetness and were the perfect touch to the savoury feast we had that day.
Taste Rating: 4.5/5

In all, we enjoyed the dishes put together by Savoury Catering for us and to receive Peranakan food instead of the usuals was a great change for us!
