Now on to our review of their buffet spread!

Raffles Treats has kindly invited us to their new kitchen to try their newly launched Christmas Menus that starts from just $18/pax and includes a whole turkey! We got to taste the following dishes:

  1. Roasted Beef & Italian Potatoes served in Au Jus
  2. Freshly Baked Turkey w Herbs served with Traditional Sauce & American Coleslaw
  3. Gobo Shira Miso Siru (Burdok white Miso Soup)
  4. Nile Perched Fillet with Carbonara Sauce
  5. Baked Aubergine Lasagne (non-meat)
  6. Vegetables Four Seasons
  7. Fettuccine Nihong Style
  8. Saffron Rice w nuts & raisins
  9. Japanese Sweet Potatoes Cake
  10. New York Cheese Cake

1. Roasted Beef & Italian Potatoes served in Au Jus

We were first greeted with the Roasted Beef & Italian Potatoes served in Au Jus. The beef was roasted just right and was tender to the bite. It comes with an accompanying side, the Italian Potatoes which we felt complemented the beef really well with its light and refreshing yogurt based sauce. Also, if you cannot take beef, Raffles Treats allows a swap of this dish to another dish. Just let them know when you make your order! :)

Rating: 4/5

2. Freshly Baked Turkey w Herbs served with Traditional Sauce & American Coleslaw

No Christmas party is "complete" without the classic o' turkey! With such an attractive price of $18/pax, we were not expecting the menu to come with a WHOLE turkey but it did! This was the Freshly Baked Turkey w Herbs that was served with Traditional Sauce & American Coleslaw. Roasted to perfection, the turkey was not dry at all and the cranberry sauce given was a welcomed sweet touch to this dish.

Rating: 4/5

3. Fettuccine Nihong Style

Did we mention that the chef behind all these dishes has extensive culinary experience, including a 10 years stint working as a chef in Japan? The Fettuccine Nihong Style (pictured above) was a Japanese-Western fusion dish done right in our opinion. Assorted vegetables and seafood were used for this dish and Raffles Treats was definitely not stingy with the ingredients used. You could taste whole prawns, sliced fish and chunks of crabsticks used for this dish along with a generous amount of bonito flakes as well. It was done the aglio-olio way with a touch of Japanese. Not too salty and oily, this one went well with the other dishes we had that day.

Rating: 4.5/5

4. Saffron Rice w nuts & raisins

The Saffron Rice w nuts & raisins wasn't very oily and yet is not dry to the taste. There was a light fragrance to the Saffron Rice and the addition of nuts and raisins added some crunchiness and sweetness to this dish, enhancing the overall texture. As the Saffron Rice wasn't a heavy-tasting dish, it did not overpower the flavours of other dishes which provided a good overall dining experience.

Rating: 4/5

5. Vegetables Four Seasons

A good variety of vegetables were used for the Vegetables Four Seasons and the slightly tangy cream sauce the vegetables were cooked in wasn't too cloying as well. The vegetables were prepared in a manner that was quite different from the conventional vegetable dishes that you see in most buffet menus so this was quite an interesting dish for us!

Rating: 4/5

6. Nile Perched Fillet with Carbonara Sauce

The Nile Perched Fillet with Carbonara Sauce from Raffles Treats certainly did not disappoint the high hopes we had for it when we saw the menu. We felt the fish was handled and prepared well, hence did not have any fishy taste to it. The fish was drizzled with just the right amount of carbonara sauce and topped with plenty of sliced garlic which cuts the heaviness of the sauce and prevented the dish from tasting too nauseating on your palate.

Rating: 4.5/5

7. Baked Aubergine Lasagne (non-meat)

All of us agreed that the Baked Aubergine Lasagne (non-meat) was the main star of this spread! It had a good amount of cheese, coupled with delicious fillings that were adequately flavoured and moist. This was unlike the usual tomato based lasagnes we had in restaurants where the tomato sauce tends to overpower the fillings. We felt this one from Raffles Treats had just the right amount of creaminess and packed with fillings. We all went for our 2nd, 3rd and 4th servings! Yum!

Rating: 5/5

8. Gobo Shira Miso Siru (Burdok white Miso Soup)

We also tried the Gobo Shira Miso Siru (Burdok white Miso Soup) that day. Albeit on the saltier side, it was a very loaded and flavourful miso soup with lots of yummy goodness in it like pork slices, konjac jelly, carrots, onions and more. We enjoyed the miso soup alot.

Rating: 4/5

9. New York Cheese Cakes

The New York Cheese Cakes has always been a hot favourite with the customers of Raffles Treats and after tasting these, it is of no wonder! The cheese cakes were rich and smooth yet not sickening even after having 2 of these! Psst... Raffles Treats bakes their cakes in-house freshly to your order so you can be assured of the quality of the cakes. :)

Rating: 4.5/5

10. Japanese Sweet Potatoes Cakes

The combination of sweet potato with cakes may sound unorthodox at first, but when we tried the cake, we understood why the chef came up with it in the first place. The cake was moist and contained the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes, and almost tasted like the milder version of mooncakes. It was a light and sweet delight, a nice change from all the cream cakes that we usually eat.

Rating: 4.5/5

Overall Verdict:

We enjoyed the dishes from Raffles Treats and would highly recommend this menu to anyone looking for a wholesome Christmas Feast with a WHOLE Turkey included.

Overall rating: 4.5/5
