Rilassi (Thai Cuisine) Review - Tan-Thai-lizing full buffet catering for your Christmas Party!

A while ago, Rilassi (Thai Cuisine) sent us their Wanderlust Christmas Buffet Menu to try. The decorations and food we received had certainly put us in the mood for Christmas then! These were the dishes we received:

This was the main staple we had that day- the Crème Mushroom Penne Pasta. We felt the use of penne pasta here was very apt. The tube-like shape of the pasta traps the cream sauce used, providing you with maximum flavour in every mouthful. There were no complaints with this dish, all of us liked it!

Next up we had the John Dory with Crème Mushroom Sauce. Unlike the conventional fish dishes we usually have from buffet spreads that are fried, the fish here was actually poached and finished with a crème mushroom sauce. It didn't feel too heavy on us and the guilty factor was definitely cut down with the use of poached fish. An overall satisfactory dish.

One of the interesting dishes we had from the spread was the Thai Style Tom Yum Chicken. The chicken pieces were very well marinated with tom yum herbs and spices and you could feel the kick from the spices after a few bites of these. This was a pretty yummy dish and could have easily gotten a full score from us all had it been a wee-bit less salty.

Suitably named, The Christmas Tree Vegetables indeed looked like a Christmas Tree! :) It was essentially a vegetable medley but, prettily arranged. The vegetables were lightly seasoned and had a slight crunch to the bite. A pretty standard but delicious vegetables dish!

We know it can be a bit of a hassle to carve a turkey at a Christmas party or have your guests do it themselves (and then give up carving themselves and have an entire plate of leftover turkey). Well, Rilassi is here to alleviate these issues by offering you sliced turkey breast instead! We got to try the Sliced Turkey Breast with Chestnut Stuffing (Served with Mushroom Sauce) and we were all happy with the tender turkey breast slices which weren't dry at all. The accompanying mushroom sauce also went very well with the meat.

These Crème Seafood Mayonnaise Spring Rolls were filled with seafood and assorted vegetables and were a real treat to have at our spread. The wasabi mayonnaise that came along with the spring rolls also complemented them really well. Thumbs up from us!

Cream of Seafood Tom Yum was the highlight of the buffet spread and we found this soup delectable! It felt like a cross between a creamy mushroom soup and tom yum soup. The cream cuts the spiciness of the tom yum spices used here and our colleague who can't take spicy food well could go for a few rounds of the soup! Rilassi was also very generous with the amount of seafood they used for the soup. Every ladle of soup contained a load of seafood, cherry tomatoes and more. As this was a full buffet setup, the soup was consistently kept hot with a burner which made the soup very enjoyable throughout the entire buffet duration. Yum!

The Xmas Snowy Potato Salad with Chives was a pretty decent dish. The potatoes were boiled to suit the Asian palate, retaining its solid form yet not too crunchy or tough to chew. The raisins used added a touch of sweetness to this dish which we enjoyed.

The Chocolate Hazelnut Beignets (pictured above, right) we had from the spread were mini donuts-like fritters that were stuffed with a chocolate hazelnut spread. They were really delightful to have along with the Snowy Cream Puffs (pictured above, left).

We ended our Christmas feast on a refreshing sweet note with the Xmas Green Emerald & Red Ruby Mini. Don't you hate it when you receive desserts with stingy portions of ingredients used? Well, you have nothing to worry about here! Rilassi definitely went big with this one. Red rubies were generously used along with lots of sago that added layers of texture to this dessert. The dessert also came with a box of coconut milk which went very well with the red rubies.

Need to cater food for your vegetarian guests? Fret not, arrangements can be made with Rilassi to provide you with vegetarian options or vegetarian bentos! We have a vegetarian colleague with us and Rilassi has kindly sent us the vegetarian bento which came in a nice lacquer box. Our colleague felt that the bento was overall very tasty and did not feel too heavy on her palate.
