The 老妈 SHIOK menu ($248) serves 15 pax and consists of the following dishes:
- Indian Pineapple Fried Rice
- Apollo Prawn
- Fruity Chicken
- Broccoli with Assorted Mushroom
- Sugarcane Prawn On Stick
- Thai Fish Fillet
- Caramelized Bananas
- Aiyu Jelly with Cocktail
Indian Pineapple Fried Rice
The Indian Pineapple Fried Rice was bursting with flavours from the generous amount of ingredients such as chicken, pineapple, seaweed and bonito flakes. The chicken slices were very tender and moist, and it was surprisingly fragrant as it absorbed all the flavours from the pineapple rice as well. The only slight let down to this dish is that the rice grains were slightly clumpy and too moist. The pineapple flavours could have also been stronger to enhance the flavours of the entire dish.

Apollo Prawn
One of the first few dishes we could not wait to dig into, would be the Apollo Prawns. The prawns were all large, fresh and succulent in texture. Each piece was very well seasoned as well with a generous amount of garlic and black sesame. The pineapple and dragon fruit slices also gave the dish a refreshing taste that uplifted the entire dish. However, we felt that the taste of the garlic was slightly overpowering, but nonetheless, it is definitely a dish worth trying!

Fruity Chicken

As unique as the name sounds, the dish itself was definitely something new to all of us as well! The moment we opened the lid to this dish, a flowery fruity aroma filled the room. The chicken was very well coated with the sauce that had a fruity zesty taste to it. The texture of the chicken was also cooked to perfection with a crunchy outer layer, and a soft and moist texture on the inside. The chilli padi and curry leaves also further enhanced the dish as it gave the extra spice and heat it needed.

Broccoli with Assorted Mushroom
The broccoli tasted as fresh as it looks right here! The chefs made sure to cook them to perfection as well, to ensure it was not too hard and not too soft. The mushrooms were also very fresh and were slightly crunchy, which paired very well with the vegetables. The only improvement we have for this dish is that it could use some gravy to provide more flavours to the dish, which would also allow the broccolis soak up the flavours to prevent it from being too bland.

Sugarcane Prawn On Stick
Another one of the top favourites among all of us would be this dish right here. The caterer was very smart in choosing to skewer the prawn on the sugarcane stick, as it allowed the prawns to absorb the natural sweetness from the cane. The sauce provided also coated each stick very well, and had a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness to it which was highly addictive. The consistency of the sauce was also just right, which helped coated each piece of prawn fully. This dish is a definite must try!

Thai Fish Fillet
When delivered to us, the fish fillets were neatly arranged on the platter, surrounding the Thai chili sauce with lemon and onion topping. The fish was well marinated, moist and tangy, however, it would be better if the batter was crispier so as to give the dish the extra texture. The Thai chili sauce complemented the fish well and gave the fish the extra spice it needed.

Caramelized Bananas
We were so excited to try out this unique creation we dug into it before starting the main course! A fragrant banana chunk was encased in a crispy and soft batter. The sesame seeds toppers gave the dish an extra texture. However, we felt that the dish was slightly on the sweeter side, it would definitely be a favourite amongst kids!

Aiyu Jelly with Cocktail
We were quite happy when the jelly came pre-packed in individual boxes instead of one big bowl. The consistency of the aiyu jelly was just right - not too soft and not too hard. The jelly was also cut into bite-sized cubes. There was a generous amount of fruit cocktails such as pineapples, cherries and nata de coco that added extra texture to every bite! We recommend that the jelly is best eaten chilled!
