Royal Taj Catering Review

Royal Taj Catering Review

Not settled on which caterer to celebrate the Festival of Lights with your loved ones? Not to worry because we recently tried Royal Taj’s ala carte mini buffet and were simply blown away! Read on to know more about their dish and what we thought of them.

Cocktail samosa

One can never go wrong with samosa! I expected this to be good, and it was. The ratio of pastry and filling was balanced, and it was enjoyable as I was able to savour both the thick pastry and the tasty potatoes. Be sure to dip it with their Dhaniya Chutney as well, you won’t regret it!

Assorted Indian Bread

The assorted naan came with two flavours, plain and garlic. I thought both were equally heavenly when dipped into the butter chicken gravy and I loved it a lot! The naans were on the thinner side, but each piece was quite big, and I actually felt quite stuffed after having this with biryani rice.

Biryani Rice

As I dug my spoon into the rice, I knew that this was going to be good because the rice was so soft and fluffy! It proved to have met my expectations as well as the rice was tasty and was a great staple to the other dishes they had to offer.

Murg Malai Kebab

Don’t be fooled by this plain-looking, pale chicken! It was actually so full of flavour, that I had to do a double-take. The meat was juicy and caramelised, which was a surprise because it still tasted so good after the long delivery journey and photoshoot session that we had.

Dal Makhni

A staple vegetarian dish in Indian cuisine, Royal Taj’s Dal Makhni looked ordinary, but it was actually full of flavour! It amazed me how lentils can be cooked to taste so creamy and buttery. I liked the thick texture of it and went really well when drizzled over the biryani rice.

Palak Paneer

This pureed spinach was the right texture of thick paste and they were so generous with the amount of Indian cheese as well. I might be used to American cheese, though, as I thought that the Indian cheese would be more flavourful if it was a little saltier. It was overall still a tasty dish as the solid cheese complemented the pureed spinach well!

Butter chicken

I’ve tried a fair share of butter chicken in Singapore, and boy did it actually exceed my expectations! The sauce was sweet but wasn’t cloying and also had a perfect balance of spices. It was also really creamy and tasty, exactly how I liked my butter chicken to be, as the butter chicken from most places I had tried were too sweet which ended up overpowering the flavour of spices. We all agreed that this was the best dish we had from Royal Taj Catering.

Chilli Fish

Although it’s called Chili Fish, it wasn’t spicy at all but rather on the sweeter side. The fish was surprisingly soft and not fishy. The sauce was also tangy, which made this savoury dish quite refreshing. I had this after the butter chicken, so I thought it wasn’t salty at all, but some of my colleagues who tasted the fish with a clean palate noted that the fish felt a little salty in the middle.

Gajar Ka Halwa

It was my first time having this dessert and it was quite an eye-opener for me. As someone who isn’t sweet-toothed, the thought of sweet carrots cooked with sugar scared me. In reality, it was too sweet for me when I tasted it before diving into my main dishes. However, I gave it a second chance after finishing my meal and it might be because I’ve tasted all the dishes, this dessert wasn’t as sweet as the first time and I’ve learned to appreciate it better.

Overall rating: 4.5/5

However, with the nature of Indian food, it may be a little too oily for some, and I’d recommend drinking some warm water to ease the adverse effects of oily food to protect and cleanse your intestines. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and enjoyable, with a good balance between the spices. With Deepavali coming up we recommend securing your delivery slots before it’s too late.
